He regularly whines his negativity, and some do eat it up as gospel. Pessimists tend to act like they know it all, and the guy writing these blogs wholly qualifies as a whiny pessimist. We should never expect anything positive to be said about the team, unless he's crying about how JJ is dragging his favorite players down (like JJ did Geno last year, but Geno's linemate for most of the season, Phil, set career highs). Nevermind that JJ has been solid defensively (out for 1 GA in the first four games? Must be Murray bailing him out every single time). Nevermind that the PK has looked decent (~84%), and JJ is out there on the PK more than anyone but Letang. I saw him directing the younger kid and insulating him when he needed it. I'm sure the young guy's defensive part played no role in helping him have two strong games.

As for the game, the Pens were good. ANA isn't a good team (?), but they found a way to start 3-0. With the amount of $$$ and talent that is injured right now, who would complain about a solid win?

Also, Phil has one assist in three games, and ARI hasn't scored a PP goal yet (six opportunities). Maybe the puck will start going in for them, but you won't see the same Phil without 87 & 71 centering for him. He's awesome, but only in that ancillary role will he be that 90 point player that he was in PIT. You won't hear that mentioned that when he's backhandedly crying about the Phil trade.

Yep. That’s exactly what I’m talking about. Both guys do little things that don’t show up on the score sheet but because Tanev is fast and hits he’s more noticeable than the little things Simon does (which are equally important).

A lot of people following the Pens, including a good number of the writers, have an obsession of speed=good hockey player since the first Sully led Cup run. Speed is good, but yeah agree, some act like it's the defining characteristic on hockey.

Speed is noticeable. That’s why lol the little plays that guys like Simon make aren’t as noticeable as guys like Kunitz and Tanev running around hitting people. I still don’t understand the obsession with foot speed. You can still play the hockey fast with good puck movement.

Hell I don’t even think the first cup run was that fast. You had Hags, Phil, Rust.. everyone else was mediocre speed but they just moved the puck so well which is faster than foot speed, that’s what’s been lacking from the Penguins IMO, Quality puck movement.

Whoa whoa, Kunitz was pretty much Simon and Tanev combined. I know you probably weren't comparing just saying haha

Oh for sure. Kunitz was better than both lol easily. I just meant that style of play is more noticeable to the eye test than someone like Simon who is often criticized for not doing enough even though he makes a ton of little smart plays that aren’t as noticeable as the Tanev/Kunitz style.

I'm really liking the chemistry that first line is gaining though, it sucks it took these injuries to really put that line together consistently but it looks good.

This is why advanced metrics should be a balancing act. One person could see "A" and another could see "B," but if you look at a few different stats and most are "A" there's a good argument for "A."

Look at the isles Fourth line. Better than everyone’s third line. I would trade a good bit to get Cizikas.

The Isles 4th line is their third line and they do a good job.

Aggozino down already, Blandisi up. Wonder if he's regretting 2 year here since Sully seemingly already has lost faith in him. What did he play, 2 shifts last game?

Both he and A Johnson were under 2 mins.

Noesen might make too much noise in the A to be ignored for much longer.

They were on the ice when the Ducks tied it up. That line got abused on that shift, but it's kind of funny Sully made up his mind so soon. I thought Agozzino sucked in camp. Sully must agree.
