On HNIC it was reported that Olofsson and Jokiharju were told by management they are here to stay the whole season. (When they were sent down for a day for cap reasons)
Wonder what moves are in store once Montour is healthy |

I don't think Staal has any desire to waive his NTC. I think it's part of the reason his contract is so affordable - jcragcrumple

Think you answered your own question there
Fancy stats have been saying the Hurricanes were on the brink of stardom for the past 4 years and last year they got rewarded for it, this year they look like they are going to run away with the metro. - Swedish_Jesus
Flaccoville- if were on pace for 95 points at the trade deadline, do you tank for a top 5 or risk just missing the playoffs?
Or even worse, the Sabres make a playoff run that doesn't include a Stanley cup? |

I still don't get the condensending tone when talking about tanking, since the entire city of Buffalo was in on it for 2 straight years. Now, people feel good about chastising others for the same thought.
Sincerely, I just don't get it. |

Tanking when you’re a bottom5 team is different then tanking when you’re a borderline playoff team
U can’t see that? |

This years draft class is deeper. This years roster also has much more talent then last years. The franchise needs to take a step this year so no I won’t be cheering for a tank this year.
I also think us having Cozens in the fold was the best case scenario for us last year. |

I’m sure a lot of NHL teams would take Eichel, Dahlin, Reinhart, Mitts, Cozens on their rosters right now. |

Having one of the best d-corps in hockey and playing a majority of your time in the offensive zone helps the goaltender though. - Swedish_Jesus
Sure, but their goaltending sucked, that's why they weren't good. They also couldn't shoot the puck well. Another reason they weren't good. Two fundamental things, that I guarantee you if they were higher they'd have been better regardless of CF%. |

Analytics don’t measure luck or talent level of individual players. Sure Mrazek was a slight upgrade but the talent level of the d-corps and the style of play helped immensely.
Hutton was great in St.Louis on a veteran team that played very well defensively. Lehner won the Jennings award last year for crying out loud. Neither fared well in Buffalo. There are a handful of elite goaltenders in the NHL, the rest of them are a product of the team in front of them for the most part. |

I'm just kidding with flaccoville or at least that was my intention.
Were you proud of suggesting the Sabres should tank soon after the 10 game win streak?
Pegullaville was on it, just him at that time. Just checking his thoughts now.

How far are you willing to travel away from the arena?
I'll give the usual responses:
Pearl St. Grill for walking distance.
Take the train to Gabriel's Gate on Allen
Offbeat by car: Essex St. Pub - jcragcrumple
Just how “off beat” is that place? Off beat as in hipster irony, or am I getting a OTPH when I refill my peanuts at the peanut stand?

You're missing the point. Their numbers were good, their goaltending and shooting wasn't. Their numbers were still good, their SV% and SH% rose, and all of a sudden they're good. Don't overthink it. |

I understand the point. The Canes finally got the saves they needed and their shooting percentage went up but this question still remains. Should the Red Wings should have kept Mrazek ? |

So the Red Wings should of kept Mrazek ? - Swedish_Jesus
Dude, people have been saying for years that Carolina had the best or among the best D-Corps. So, what changed? They shot the puck better, and they stopped the puck better. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar(look it up). |

I never said analytics are the end all be all. Like you mentioned it doesn’t account for luck, overall talent level or heart. I’d say it accounts for 50% of it. However it doesn’t take a rocket science to
Figure out though if you are getting a lot of chances for and not as many against you are generally going to win more then you lose. - Swedish_Jesus
Thanks for all that, but my whole original point was that a coach with a seemingly similar philosophy to Krueger took a team with a similar roster to a 103 pt division winning season....while the whole time corsi devotees were telling anyone who would listen that they weren't really that good and were due for regression at any time now. Exactly like you came here spouting corsi as to why Buffalo can't/won't keep it going this year.
You missed my whole point, badly. |

Wouldn’t the “disappointing playoff defeat” satisfy the regression that you then referred to ? |
