Wouldn’t the “disappointing playoff defeat” satisfy the regression that you then referred to ? - Swedish_Jesus
Dude, I'm saying that the corsi said all year they were gonna crash, weren't gonna make it far, would be lucky if even made playoffs...and yet they kept going all the way to 103 pts and a division title. The "disappointing loss" was only mentioned to lead into the fact that the Corsi disciples took over the next season and fukked everything up. Never mind. |

I don't think Staal has any desire to waive his NTC. I think it's part of the reason his contract is so affordable - jcragcrumple
I am pretty sure I read that if Minny didn't re-sign him he was going to retire. He has no desire to play anywhere else. |

Pretty sure any loss would be a "disappointing playoff defeat". They lost to an Isles team who also hit the 100pt mark. Of the losses, one was in OT and two were in double OT. Sure it was disappointing, but it easily could have went either way.
A real "disappointing playoff defeat" would be what happened to Tampa Bay last year.
Edit:
The Panthers had a higher Corsi in 4 out of 6 games including a 65-35 difference in the game one 5-4 loss. |

I think the plan is to have Pilut in Rochester the rest of the season, unfortunately. |

Ok, and I also said corsi doesn’t account for individual talent level, luck, or heart and was 50% of the equation. The Panthers defied the analytics and had a good season, that doesn’t change the fact that I think it would be a good idea for the Sabres to be in relatively good standing in the league in chances for and chances against.
The Bruins doubled the Blues in shots and chance attempts in Game 7 last year and lost. Corsi doesn’t account for a goalie getting hot, elite players who can change the outcome of the game on a single shot. I have continuously said the past few pages it is not the end all be all.
The Sabres on paper don’t have the teams that Tampa, Toronto, Boston, or even Florida at this point have, but they will remain competitive if they play with good defensive structure and limit their chances against.
Corsi is also a very broad concept and doesn’t take into account expected goals for or high danger scoring chances which also go a step further.
The Oakland Athletics have proven with “Money Ball” that analytics have their limitations but it doesn’t mean that they do not paint a picture of how teams in various sports leagues can find success in certain areas. |

Relying solely on Advanced Stats is idiodic as they cannot account for every aspect that goes into winning.
Ignoring Advanced Stats is idiodic as they do offer up insights which offer an increased probability of improved play which likely lead to more wins.
Much like politics, leaning heavily in one direction or the other is not a solution, rather a problem.
Perhaps a less offensive (to some anyway) comparison would be to roster construct...having too much of one type of player style leads to shortcomings overall....too much finese opens one up to being run down by a more physical opponent; while having too much physical presence often detracts from having higher-end skills, even hockey IQ. Creating an optimal blend is usually the more successful path. |

Why rush him? We're 4-0-1 and have plenty of. NHL defenseman. I'd like to see Gilmore in a game or 2? |

It's not like he is a 19 year old. The guy showed that he can play in the league and at times played very well last year. If we have guys that we know are the future and are ready to play in the league then they should play over guys who aren't part of the future. If last night's report is true (Joker and Goaloffson are safe) then in two weeks both Scandella and Risto should be gone.

Sure. Unless a move is made Gilmour gets waived too.
Pilut is a good NHL D man. He needs to get a lot of games here.
I hope he does |

Pilut has a lot to learn. He has work to do in his own zone. Kid is great beyond it, though |

So does - 26,19,55,6,10, etc.
If the guys above can somehow look better defensively under Krueger, why wouldn’t Pilut?

He has already dominated down there. Nothing more to learn. He (like the rest of the team) was simply overrun when the wheels fell off last year. |

Before sending Gilmour down he should get a couple games here. Who says he can't be a good NHL dman as well? Pilut and Gilmour have the same total NHL games with similar numbers, however Gilmour's AHL numbers are far superior. Last year he had 20g and 34a in 70 games. I honestly can't say I've seen enough of Gilmour's play to see how his defensive game compares, but would like to see him a couple times before sending him down.
Also, not sure how the cap would be affected with Pilut earning $225k more in salary. |

4-0-1 and you want to rush our young defenseman?
We're winning- finally
You aren't content, change out some veterans and add more inexperienced guys to a already young team with a new system?
I'm fine winning |
