Aberg keeps on disappointing me. Was sure he was gonna be a ~40 pts 3rd liner in the NHL. Time is running out... If he (frank)s up again this year, it's back to Europe!

Can't be (and isn't) worse than Petan or Timashov.

I was really hopeful for him after the Leafs signed him but he was heap of nothingness in the preseason.

Might be a couple of years away but its certainly nice knowing you got guys like that in the system
- RatedR80

For sure. Especially when we don't have any 1st round picks.

Fair enough, but that's hat happens when you are paired with someone who runs around in their own end. He's a number one d man, 5th in Norris voting, and he plays with a number 7. Easily predictable that he was going to have a down year.
- aminnes

He did all those things you just listed with a 3rd pairing d-man last year so not really much of a difference.

Meanwhile, Zaitsev continues a great start of the year for Ottawa - having a really good game vs Tampa's topline tonight.

And McElhinney playing really well for Tampa as their backup.

Hainsey was physically limited by his age but he was a smart player.

Ceci on the other hand, who has the physical tools, age and correct handedness, plays with little to zero intelligence. His problem is his lack of IQ.

A smart player is usually going to do better than a guy who just doesn't get it.

Another player better than Petan, Timashov and Spezza.

Hainsey is a reasonable stay at home defensemen. He isn't flashy, and he isn't fast, but he played his position. Reilly didn't have to move off his set spot to try and make up for Hainsey losing guys. Hainsey has his warts, but he is not a number 7 defensemen, even at his age.

I wonder if they tried to get Boyle before Spezza.

Going to be interesting to see what his final price tag is going to be because he's not signed yet.

No. He’s too big, too tough and plays heavy old school hockey. That’s Kyles Kryptonite.

If he’s a mill or less the leafs should seriously consider making a few minor moves to bring him in.

He's what they need, but no cap space.
