I get that he is slow, but Smith is not a problem on this team. The 4th line is doing it's job even keeping the puck in the other end for stretches, and he is a pretty solid PKer.
No he's not great and won't fill the net much, but I don't have any issue with him. - Chunk
Smith is not a problem. He's a 4th line banger, giving the Hawks what they need. Not getting much from L1 and L2. |

I like the 4th line & he's a serviceable pker. I wouldn't have traded for him, but I have no problems with him.
Great that the high stick on Seabs was missed, but Shaw holding was caught. Smh. Gotta put up another good kill. |

Don't look now, but that's 2 straight solid PKs.

Really good sticks on that last one cutting off a lot of the passing lanes. |

Honestly Nylander looks good on the 4th line as well, worked hard hustling, grinding

Oh I think there was plenty of O. Both teams on pace for mid 30s SOGs, both goalies playing well. |

I really like that line too. More than I originally thought I would. Kampf is feeding, but they need to finish, especially against this team. - I Am The Breadman
Who’s that idiot that said Kampf wasn’t worthy of being 3C??

After getting scratched, I think he got the message. So far. Hope he keeps this style of play up. He's working hard in the corners. |

Nylander likes to handle the puck, he doesn’t need to defer to anyone on line 3. |

More than one who dislikes Kampf. I wouldn't slot him there, personally, but he's given no reason as to why he shouldn't be the 3c. |

A lot of Edmonton’s shots were on the wings, will take that. |

Yep, they played better as the period went on. EDM has a very good PP, two solid kills is something to build off of - as long as they can stay out of the box during the 2nd. Crow looks dialed in too.
Watching the game on SN1 here in Halifax - interesting to listen to the EDM announcers. |

Dach will still be the 3C once he returns from Rockford. Kampf can rotate in and out of the lineup with Smith. |

Slow down now, but this is good to see Perlini and Nylander battling for minutes, last game Perlini feet were moving, tonight Nylanders are. I don't care what line you're on it's hockey and if you play a certain way you can contribute on lines 3 and 4 if you can skate |

It's the little things that sometimes make the difference. The penalty that Kubalik took never would have happened if the puck wasn't iced by the RD (I think Murphy). The play happened when the LD passed across to the RD who had plenty of time to make a safe play, including passing it back to the LD. Instead he tries to pass the puck up along the boards to a team mate that was covered and unable to receive the pass. It goes the length for icing and the ensuing faceoff was won by Draisitl and Kubalik gets his stick in Draisitl's face. Fortunately the Oilers didn't cash in - but a "nothing play" that could have been avoided led to a PP for the Oilers.
The Hawks take too many bad icing calls. It's fine to pass it up and try to spring a guy but the play by Murphy wouldn't have resulted in an offensive chance because the guy was covered up along the boards -just a stupid play. |

I'm not going to, but I would put money on Dach starting at wing. With the way the line is playing, I wouldn't expect Kampf to be moved away from his wingers any time soon. |

At this point Kampf's efforts do NOT indicate he should be benched. And Dach has done exactly nothing to prove he belongs on NHL ice. |

Very telling that he is not playing against McDavid and Draisaitl.... |

Not the whole story, but not insignificant:
Scott PowersVerified account @ByScottPowers
Kampf's line matched up with McDavid's line for much of the first period. McDavid was on the ice against Kampf for 4:57 in the first period. Kampf's line had a 5-1 advantage in shot attempts and 4-1 in shots on goal.
