Toews played 10 minutes and change at 5v5. That is idiotic.
- Elbows15

Obviously it worked, they won, Toews really didn't look that good in the 1st anyways just saying

Normally that would be called "rolling 4 lines", except when Colliton does it it is called puzzling.
- EbonyRaptor

Rolling 4 lines doesn't mean you play slugs like Carpenter and Smith as much as Toews.

I get what you are saying, but there was also some hard PK time and PP time. Those aren't just lost in the ether. Also, the "top 3 lines" all had relatively even time. I personally prefer that to leaning on one or two lines.

End of the day, if we get this kind of play, I don't really care how they do it. That was very strong D against a good team while also generating a lot of good chances.

At the end of the day, it won't work going forward. The Oilers forward group is pretty bad aside from 3 guys.

I feel like you’re reaching here on this. I noticed Toews a lot, he had a solid game and so did those slugs you’re referring to. All 4 lines chipped in and played an even amount of minutes. Nothing to complain about if you ask me.

Maybe the coach is holding the star player accountable?

it was Kampf line that handled most of the dirty work against McDavid. Tippett couldn't get them out there fast enough against Carpenter's line.
- Elbows15

It did but the 4th line was creating turnovers by going after the Oilers dmen, by putting that 4th line out there Nylander ends up with GW goal, i guess the win wasn't pretty enough for you, thank God they weren't outshot that (frank)ing crowd would be out in droves.

Also the Oilers record coming in was very misleading. They still suck. So yes we keep improving but our opponent tonight was a bad team with like 4 legit forwards(2 of which play far too many minutes) and a poopty defense. I was laughing at all the “Oilers are back” headlines floating around lately.

Jurco is playing in their top 6. Nuff said.

Didn't they design this roster for matchup problems

Everyone afraid we aren't going to beat Oil 5-0 blah blah blah, now they aren't very good, WTF

Yeah they’re trash. McDavid is pretty much the Mike Trout of the NHL. A transcendent superstar that plays for a team that can’t even make the playoffs let alone win a championship.

They honestly aren’t good though. They were 5-0 because of 5 fluke comeback wins. Their roster blows.

Their PP has been on fire. That isn't sustainable over a season. They have 1 d-man of any worth in Klefbom. The rest are garbage.

Boston is going to win the whole thing, or at least they should be considered favorites to do so considering they have hands down the most complete roster/team in the NHL.

What was your point?

No one saw the Hawks winning the game prior to the game, then experts come after the fact and proclaim how bad the Oilers are.

You said Boston was going to win the whole thing last year, sea bass said the Bolts, and the lonely nobody poopty team the Blues won the whole thing, none of us know who the hell is going to win on any given night

I thought the Hawks were gonna win prior to the game, so at least one person did. Myself and others stating facts about how flawed the Oilers roster is and how fluky their record is doesn’t diminish how impressive the Hawks were, or how noticeable their improvements game to game have been. Hell read back I’ve had plenty of nice things to say about the win we had tonight.

As for my prediction last year c’mon man you’re gonna knock me when my pic made it all the way to the SCF and played a back and forth evenly fought series they easily could have won? I mean it’s not like I picked TB or some other massive disappointment. AND fwiw I picked Blues Bruins as the eventual SCF before the playoffs even started.

Just know that I’m always right with my predictions. Like when I picked the Dodgers to win the WS this year. Or when I predicted Brady and the Patriots would fall off a cliff and start to suck this season. Or when I picked Alabama over Clemson last year. Or Clemson over Alabama the year before that. Or maybe it was the other way around I can’t keep track anymore...😉

I'm not sure I understand why it won't/can't. It is not like they are giving the extra minutes to Mashinter. For better or worse, Colliton leans heavily (although it seemed a little more even this game) on PP1, Toews also plays a big role on PK. Two guys in the top 9 were below 16 minutes (Kubalik - who had two penalties, and Caggiula - who has less overall responsibility). What does it matter what kind of minutes they are? No one is getting overly taxed and everyone was being effective on both ends of the ice.

If you can run 3 lines that evenly and have a 4th line at basically 10 minutes per night (who also controlled the ice pretty well), why won't that work at the end of the day?

I am calling it now HAWKS win 5 to 2 GO HAWKS GO !!!!
- oldduffman

Called it !!!! well kind of .Did not see the game but really like the score. Glad to hear Nylander had a good game ,could really use that talent motivated and producing.
Have not been trilled with the line combos J. C. been running out lately ,but hey hard to ague with success ,and they have been technically in every game .
I still think Kubalik may be our best pick up ,hope so crab him in my Pool .
Friday ..!! WT-.... schedule is this GO HAWKS GO !!

They won't. DK was superb tonight. That third line was tremendous tonight. Yet again.
- kwolf68

I will. I wasn't a fan of him being a 3rd C. To be fair though, didn't mind him as the 4th.

That said, they've been the best line on the team, and need more mins.

There was a time when the team was the most successful and winning cups, when they were rolling 4 lines.

Not sure of the 4th yet, but they certainly can roll 3 at this point.

Agree on rolling 3 lines and with an earlier poster on Smith not really contributing much.

I’ve only seen really 2 of the 4 games so far but he was better tonight than the other game I saw him.

Highmore doesn’t sound like a bad idea but just for fun, what about Sikura.

You're speaking to a group that still brings up the Phil Esposito trade. What do you think?
