38 games in Chicago last season - most under Q - again, good possession stats while playing protected minutes (60% ozone starts) with 0 goals 12 assists.
Small sample size and he does have good 3-4 (maybe 2) slotting potential.
Considering the defensive possibilities in the system - and the lack of them for the top-6 forward slots - a “stretch trade” and gamble for sure, but not a bad one.
And way too early to judge. - StLBravesFan
I understand the rationale for the trade, and I'm okay with trading the asset away. The jury is out on whether they traded for the right guy in return. |

IIRC (and there's a good chance I don't), we were a better road team last year. Blame Cornelison. - pdx2ord
PDX, I was just going to say that. It is the truth!
From now on, when this board says JC needs to be fired, it will be Jim Cornelison. |

I don’t mean to pile on Colliton here - even after half of last season and into this one, a small sample size with a much-turned-over squad with an aging core - but I also haven’t seen much that shows me that he’s the solution behind the bench. Maybe he’d serve the organization better (at this point in HIS development) as the development coach at Rockford (where a development coach is dramatically needed).
But I will criticize his line change against SJ - moving Kubalik to be with Toews-Kane after a very good first period with Saad and Kampf.
But I will also criticize Kane and Toews for not being able to get that top line going as a line over two games (altho certainly Kane was very productive in other situations) - two HOFers should be able to drive play no matter who the third skater is.
Time for Toews in particular to begin skating like he did last season (and like he was skating in his preseason games just a couple of weeks ago). |

Sorry Scott, I don’t think Gus is dropping out of the lineup anytime soon. He’s one of the only true puck movers in the team. Ideally he is stuck with 3rd pair minutes, but he’ll be in there. - Chunk

I'm not sure the Hawks should even dress Dach under JC
So far Joki - Q - who is critical of young Dmen especially, thought enough to pair with Keith (who liked and thought high of Joki) Yet JC comes in and Joki doesnt see the ice when he's here, sent down and now gone
Nylander - during camp, practices...gets put with 88&19. Has to feel good for him. Scores a goal in game 1 1st period then gets pulled from that line the next 2 periods. Next week between games...hes back with that line. Gets 1 period in 1st home game with CHI (think he may have nerves going?)...gets 1 period then off the line. Now scratched
If JC isnt going to let him develop/correct a mistake then why ruin any confidence he may ever get by doing this? He should START him on the 3rd or 4th line and shelter his minutes OR put him with 88&19 and give hime a few full games to see if he can grow. But now? Who knows
Why will it be different for Dach? Not sure if I'm the seeing this, that I'd want Dach near this clown |

I have to remind myself it's been only 2 games and those games were not in the normal rhythm of the season - so it's not surprising the team in general and some players in particular looked a "little off".
Toews is one of the players who seems a little off. Hopefully it's not an indication he has reverted back to the 2017/18 Johnny. For the Hawks to have any chance to make the playoffs in 2019/20 - Toews needs to be the 2018/19 version of himself. |

Any coach that plays Zach Smith as much as Brandon Saad...then uses Gus as your number 1 defenceman...is a danger to himself and others |

To me there is 2 number 19's, i really like the one that is willing to keep the puck on his stick and drive possession, i really don't like the one who wants the puck off his blade as soon as he has it on it, this player loves to pass into covered guys and right before he enters the offensive zone to a covered wing, which ends up being a 50 50 puck and that line isn't very good at 50 50 pucks unless Caggiula or probably Shaw are on it.

This is not a defense of Colliton. I have my own issues with a number of his decisions. Joki was starting to regress a bit under Q. Colliton is not the end all-be all on roster decisions. They saw that he needed some time in the AHL developing and sent him there. They have a glut of defensemen and traded one of them to get an offensive asset. We can argue the return all day, but it is what it is.
Nylander is not playing well away from the puck. This is not news. In the same light as Joki, I wouldn't be surprised if they send him down for more experience. I personally don't want a guy learning to do that on line 1. Considering his deficiencies, he is not a good fit to play on lines 3-4. That said, he is currently scratched. If he can prove he knows how to play a more complete game, he will be back in. If not, he goes down. |

We may read here after the game that he's obviously a top pairing guy, that he just didn't look good in JC's "system", and Stan was a dolt for losing him on waivers.
Watch for it. |

Lehner - In, de Haan - In, DACH - out Let the kid play!!
It is over a month for him since he has played, why not let him play against a Jets "D" that is just as leaky as the Blackhawks. Frustrating when he is healthy, but the Hawks do not take the kids gloves off of him. Never knew the Hawks' plan was to space this 9 game tryout over the course of 82 games. The kid needs to play or go back to Junior to start playing somewhere again, very soon!! |

I am on a rant this morning, as the Hawks have frustrated me majorly to start this season. I really hope Boqvist tears it up in Rockford because I would much rather watch a 19 year old make mistakes knowing that he will only get better than a 27 year old in Gustaffson. I want Boqvist sooner than later because Gus makes me puke watching him attempt to play defense. Any combination of Highmore, Wedin and Entswhistle can arrive soon too. Those kids had better camps than some of the slugs we have, at least kids will play hungry and not disinterested!! Shake it up baby!! |

Completely agree, this argument about driving possession drives me crazy, what good does it do you when he can't make a play under pressure, passes into a covered forward, and has no compete in the defensive zone. |

I am curious to see what DeHaan and Lehner bring to the team tonight. Hopefully on the PK we can understand things like covering Laine and not chasing the puck. |

Bowman also did outwardly state in interviews that the D prospect pipeline was deep and it was inevitable that at least one of them would be traded. So it was a matter of which D prospect would get traded and for what return.
IIRC, the interviews were in reference to the Big 4 (Jokiharju, Boqvist, Mitchell, Beaudn) and not the full menu (Krys, Gilbert, Carlsson, Galvas, and at the time Hillman).
Even though I will admit the Jokiharju trade stung, drafting Vlasic helped quite a bit to replenish some (or a lot) of the stock. Too early to tell with any of them but even seeing Moberg stand out at Traverse City was a nice sign. |
