There are not many d-men in this league that are polished defensively
- Swedish_Jesus

Oh my god remind me to stop reading your posts. This is the dumbest thing I've ever read on here.

They literally are defensemen. There are way more defensive defensemen in this league than offensive defensemen, that's literally what they're supposed to do. Are you mad?

Id rather beat my head against a spiked wall then go on. I proved my point.

Believe what you want

First off - I apologize for the hack comment- didn’t mean it and I enjoy your blogs. I was annoyed at the bringing up old players comment.

Secondly- I understand that he wasn’t great in his end. That’s not my point

My point is that we shouldn’t be sitting on a lead to begin with. We should be playing to score. Not playing not to lose.

It'll go unanswered and the narrative will switch to the Lockport Twins or Bogosian. Maybe with a touch of E Kane or ROR thrown in for good measure

Good post OneCup, think they have to change the culture, players are so used to doing that for the last 5 yrs, think it will change once the HC gets them playing his game for a full 60, it's a shame Vesey doesn't bury that chance just after they pulled the goalie and we probably aren't talking about this

I’d still be talking about the benching because it’s a silly thing to do to a budding star player IMO. You let guys like that play through it

Every team has a few depth d-men. However the big point producers on the back end, whom Dahlin will be compared to his whole career all struggle defensively to some extent. Karlsson, Burns, and Giordano have won Norris trophies in the past few years and none of them could defend if their life depended on it.

Just remember the goalie who’s stole us 3 points already this year isn’t as important to us as William Carrier would be.

I see now why you rarely post your opinions, and just criticize others.

Let's hope he cleans it up and becomes more Lidstrom and less Giordano.

I think it's easily explained as follows: many of us have been scarred by watching the same characters on the ice the last few years cough up the few leads they've had as a result of overplaying said players, so when we see the same players get overplayed and 2 goal leads go away, it brings back bad memories. Right or wrong, win or lose, we'd rather go down with the ship, meaning the #1 pick franchise defenseman than the alternative that we've seen far, far too many times already.

Dahlin is still testing the waters of North American hockey, I firmly believe Swedish Jesus will impact the game defensively as McDavid is doing offensively in a few years.

I do post opinions. I don’t post analyses.

I watch hockey games mostly. I don’t have time for all the initialed data.

Well put.

I just think it’s absolutely crazy to sit a player like Dahlin (and Jokiharju) for any period of time. It’s not like he’s handing teams goals

Especially to try and hold a lead when the alternatives are what they are.

There are more then 2 D-men on the ice, and maybe if you watched Risto stick is being held by Barkov on the the goal, and could be wrong but it was McCabe that didn't get the puck out not Risto. It's funny how Risto gets bagged on but the Forwards have no part in it.
- Buff36

Correct McCabe didn’t get it out first but then Risto had it to the right of Ullmark and tripped over himself and failed to get it out. Barkov grabbed Risto’s stick after that.

What have you seen defensively in the past 5 years from 19, 6 or 55 that says they are any better? They routinely have sat back and given up leads like they did Friday.

The entire point of the game is to get to the other teams zone, which Dahlin is great at. Not to sit back and play goalie and allow the opposition to pepper you

That's right, you didn't play hockey. I forget sometimes, then I read your posts.

So haven't you watched 22, 28 and 21 before under a few different coaches? What's up now? Players can play different under different coaches and systems.

Part of this mix up : is having a new defensive system in place. Its gonna happen, hopefully less with veterans in the finals minutes of a game.

I played hockey badly at several levels and various positions. Am I qualified to give an opinion?
