Neither are top 6 wingers on this team. Leivo is top 6 in Utica & Ferland (as is) is a 3rd liner. This team needs Goldobin with Pettersson, Baer with Bo or Gaud, and Loui & Leivo the (frank) outta here.

Not sure why we even have waivers in the NHL. Almost nobody gets claimed. Just send 'em down. Why go through the exercise of waiting to see if anybody takes a player. Even teams that can't win games, stick with their own guys...

When Goldy was acquired for Hansen I thought it was a pretty good deal for JB. But it obviously was a lateral deal. Probably would have been better just to let Hansen walk and save yourself the frustration.

Waivers are more for players getting a chance to play. Clubs not holding onto them for forever.

They are rarely used anymore and generally no one has got much significance out of claiming someone off waivers.

Given the injuries to Niklas Hjalmarsson in Arizona and Adam Larsson in Edmonton, not to mention the depth concerns in Winnipeg and New Jersey, that is already four teams that could consider taking a flier on Welinski. He may not be a household name or even an established NHLer at this point in career, but for now he’s a free option with demand for defense on the rise.
