I know this isn’t a popular opinion, especially with quite a few revisionist armchair GM’s in here.
Overall I like what Benning has accomplished here in Vancouver, sure we all dislike the Eriksson acquisition, but I like Sutter and Beagle, I like the Miller acquisition, Ferland will hopefully come around soon, but I like what Benning is trying to achieve.
I like the team and I think it’s up to the coaching staff to get the best out of all the players, so I have decided to give Green the benefit of doubt, at least until the train starts to derail. That statement is just for you golfingsince, hope everyone is having a great thanksgiving day. - Makita
I think that it's interesting because Benning failed to keep the team competitive over the last few years, but now looks to have righted the ship. All the patchwork efforts to keep the team afloat didn't work. Miller was the best goalie out there to keep us from getting shelled every night. Eriksson was one of the high profile scorers on the UFA market; yes, he sucks now, but he would have gotten that contract elsewhere too. There were lots of gambles for high pedigree players that turned out to be fringe talent. And he hasn't done a great job of keeping or acquiring more picks.
Having said all that, we do have a good group of prospects that Benning deserves credit for. The team overall looks much improved this year and we have some star players thanks to Benning. I personally don't object to paying guys like Beagle and Roussel a bit too much if you think they play an important role on your club and you don't have that kind of skill set in the organization already. It's not like we had any contracts that we really needed to get done at the time and in another year or 2 they take less or they leave.
It hasn't been an easy 5 years, but it looks like we're back to being a middle of the pack team with the kind of elite talent we can build a winner around. So I'd say he's done a good job overall. |

1/3 of my roster was auto picks. It's going to take me a few weeks of tweaking to become competitive I think. I'll probably hover around last place for the first few weeks. |

I just figured that every time I log on and read bloated whining about Benning that I’d give an alternative point of view.

Needed some high picks in those 5 years, good thing we finished near the bottom just didn't get any lottery luck, if we would have finished as a bubble team, team whiners would be all over not getting high picks need some skill etc. |
