He dropped one player down in one game. Every other Flyers coach has done the same thing multiple times.

That's cool. But jake needed that. I dont care who else has done it I like that AV is doing it right now
I like AVs attitude. The flyers needed it

My only worry long term with Fletcher is how much of a hard on he has for US players. I hope he's capable of drafting the best players available and not just the best Americans available.

I like AV a lot and I think he'll have a good impact on the franchise.

You're right he does tend to like those American boys. But it seems like he made some nice picks this past draft. American born players are on the rise though. Its nice to see

Even O'Brien is off to a hot start. I know he dropped down in competition but this can only help. Plus gives him additional time to develop. The college guys are impressive. Going to be fun to see them develop.

Didn't somebody drop him down the 4th line once before? Berube maybe?

That said, I don't think any player should be above getting their ice time cut. AV wasting no time lets the players know where they're headed if they aren't playing the right way.

- hereticpride

I don't remember if it was back that far. I feel like it was a Hakstol move early on in his career here.

In any event I think Voracek had a few games playing on the 4th line before he moved up again.

Had another big lead at home and couldn’t hold it....yeah. Schneider doesn’t look good either, but that D in front of him doesn’t help.

The US has been producing a ton of talented players since 2015. Last year the USNTDP was on fire so it’s not been a bad strategy to focus on the US born guys.

He’s being assertive imo in setting the tone early. So far I like what I’ve seen under the AV era. We will see how we feel midseason but where we stand right now I like what they are trying to do. From systems play, special teams and ice time.

I am very happy with his picks. I just hope he doesnt favor US over a better quality player going forward
No doubt the US has been put on the map. Kids coming out of Arizona and Florida now. I love it

I think this is a completely different team then last year.
I like it all, too. And we have a steady stream of players developing in the pipeline. Our window is open soon

Agreed. When Hakstol was fired, my first pick was Vigneualt. They needed to hire a proven veteran NHL coach who has a pedigree and weight behind him. I like the style of play he has them playing. They have the talent to be a playoff team.

Also agree about the schedule. First the game overseas and a gap between games. Now late games on the west coast.

Seeing the early returns, limited though they may be, how much blame are you putting on the coaching staff for the lack of sustained success over the Hakstol era? Just curious.

I've only been able to watch one game so far(the home opener). 👎

I don't get how the team you send to Europe immediately comes back and gets sent on a west coast trip after one home game.

It’s interesting because being a proven NHL coach doesn’t guarantee poop, but I think AV has found a way to balance his experience with his style of play to this team. I think this team was ready for a coach that knew exactly what he wanted to do. The puck support has been a major influence on their success so far. Moving to Voracek to the 4th line after three games and the travel schedule they’ve had shows he’s interested in results and effort and that is important early on. I just think it was the right time for this team to have a coach like AV. And the veteran leadership behind him on the bench. Love the penalty kill so far and even though I disagree with some of the positions they put guys on the PP, I like that they’ve tried to put a different spin on it. I’m excited for this year.

I’m glad they started some guys in the AHL. Farabee and Frost looked good and all in the preseason for young players hungry for a chance, but I like making them go to the A and proving they don’t belong there. Force people out of a spot. That’s how it should be.

One of the most important factors with a coach is buy in from the players. Let's remember while we're all pretty much in agreement that we like the way the team is playing in terms of style of play, Vigneault, like all coaches eventually was fired twice previously. He's using a lot of the same systems play that he used in NY. For example the puck side quick up breakout play that they're using. In previous seasons the Flyers PK was too passive and not aggressive enough. I know that they weren't coached to play that way. For whatever reason, they were no responsive. Experienced coaches with pedigree earn the respect of the leadership group which in turn helps implement what the coach wants. That can certainly go away but I think it's obvious that the coach has buy in from the players right now.

I thought it would be interesting to pose it because we can now juxtapose it with a completely different regime. It was hard for me to get a handle on them for 5 years because they were going through a rebuild of sorts and were inconsistent as any, so it was hard for to gauge how much of the inconsistency could be placed on Hakstol....that’s all.

I will say this and be done with it. It was clear that the goaltending break down affected the team mentally and put them in a team wide funk. Hakstol either did not know how or the players just weren't going to respond to him and what he was asking of them to get out of it. The previous season, Hakstol did a strong job getting the team to 3rd in the Metro with basically one line and a lack of a true top defense pairing.

Oddly enough, I think I would start Hart tomorrow and Elliott Wednesday. In case the Oilers wreck us, I think a vet might be able to handle the loss better than a young player.

Isn’t Edmonton Hart’s hometown? They don’t need to shelter him, just support him. Hart will probably have a ton of family and friends there to cheer him on, and he has been playing well. I also always expect to win...so I plan accordingly. I’m good with it.
