I will say this and be done with it. It was clear that the goaltending break down affected the team mentally and put them in a team wide funk. Hakstol either did not know how or the players just weren't going to respond to him and what he was asking of them to get out of it. The previous season, Hakstol did a strong job getting the team to 3rd in the Metro with basically one line and a lack of a true top defense pairing.

Fair enough, thanks .

The context of the conversation is trading older players to make room to add younger players. How does a Lucic for Neal trade accomplish that. Perhaps a review of the posts is in order.
- MJL

Ok. Money could be retained. There’s ways that’s all. I thought you said trading him for futures to make room for a kid while competing for the cup, does not make sense. If money is retained it could. And his services at his age would only be wanted by a contender. That was the player for player swap that could fill different needs. All hypothetical of course.

I hope they replace him with Hakstol

Isn’t Edmonton Hart’s hometown? They don’t need to shelter him, just support him. Hart will probably have a ton of family and friends there to cheer him on, and he has been playing well. I also always expect to win...so I plan accordingly. I’m good with it.

The schedule has sucked so far. Can’t wait to get to a a stretch where I’m figuring out when I can watch the games. Let’s go already!

You claimed you read the posts but it's obvious now based on previous comments and what you THOUGHT I said, you didn't get the gist of it. The premise that I was offering was that a trade of an older higher cap hit player to make room for a younger player could come with some baggage to speak. Retaining money on a trade is one of those possibilities. As is taking back a contract you don't want. That's the point I was making. Is it clear now?

Oh such wisdom. How wise.

History has shown most players have struggled playing in front of their crowd.

Agreed. When Hakstol was fired, my first pick was Vigneualt. They needed to hire a proven veteran NHL coach who has a pedigree and weight behind him. I like the style of play he has them playing. They have the talent to be a playoff team.

Also agree about the schedule. First the game overseas and a gap between games. Now late games on the west coast.

yeah, pick up 2 of the next 4 points and get the hell home...

Giroux seems to play just fine in Ottawa and Briere never seemed to struggle in Montreal, but whatever.

Yeah. I expected this really. Carter with a chance to play in from of his hometown peeps, and we'll need a solid game from him as the Oilers have had a hot start. Calgary is a good squad as well, and maybe they're hoping Moose plays well vs his old squad. Short answer is, there are no easy wins. If we split, then I am happy with the crazy odyssey that this team has been up against to start the year.

I followed the gist from the get go. While I understand the potential cost as a fan I want a team that will suck to give us 2 firsts for JVR followed the next year with 2 firsts for Jake. In a perfect world with no cap, none of that matters. Sadly, the league is capped and there is no chance this will happen. Just a dream of good players filtering in exactly when some wants one of our guys.

right, but what about the other team retaining money? i think you get set in one view point and argue semantics with people.....was my point. once again hypothetical situations you always argue. All possibilities, what if the other team is the one that wants the older said player and over pays for player...retaining money on the player they are sending back and that fills a different need for the team. Is that baggage? just saying

I could settle for that. I would prefer a win tonight and let's roll the dice tomorrow. Oilers lost finally. Maybe 2 in a row.

I don't think you're considering all the conditions. If the Flyers are looking to move JVR in a few years, it's not going to be from a position of strength. They'll be trying to move a 30+ player with a high cap hit that is no longer in their plans. Not the same thing as the Schenn move.
- MJL

Yeah, I checked that score. Happy to see them lose. I actually like Calgary but don't like Edmonton so much.
OT: anyone see what happened in NJ yesterday? Up 4-1 and lost 6-4.. wow what a dumpster fire they seem to be.

For some reason I thought with the all the new coaches, Lappy was taking a back seat and no longer being behind the bench, yet the other day I saw him back there. Any info if something changed and AV likes him out there now?

There is no spin here that you can offer. You missed the point that was being made. Now you're arguing semantics and accusing me of it. No one, including myself offered any absolutes.

I think he likes that you can't move back there with 4 coaches and the training staff all lined up behind the bench. Gives a nice warm cozy feeling.

Very unusual for a Devils team to be bleeding goals.
