He's good but he should go down. His ice-time has been and will be limited. Much better to have him play bigger minutes with the Marlies, and more importantly, save his ELC for future years. - JohnFergusonJr

Agree, he'll be top four by the end of the season. Fearless, hits and looks solid. Playing Marincin instead of bringing this kid along does not move the needle for me. How much time did McAvoy spend in the AHL because he was too young? Boy did Boston ever drop the ball and give up ELC to get McAvoy into the NHL. Such a stupid loser move. |

Is Boston paying 40 million to 4 forwards and another 10 coming up for their #1D?
Rielly and Sandin both have expiring contracts in the same season if they burn a year of his ELC now. Stupid is making their cap situation even more complicated than it needs to be for 6th D minutes. Holl has proven capable of playing the #6 spot when Dermott returns as the #5. No need for Marincin. |

When you mention one aspect of a salary structure and ignore the rest, you are purposely misleading the conversation. Boston is a cap team - same as the Leafs. Its not Dubas' fault Boston is paying $13.25 Million a year for two more years to Backes and Krejci - they certainly aren't worth it given age and production over the past 3 years. Besides that, you mention Rielly - who is signed for 3 more seasons, you failed to mention that both Chara and Krug are UFA next year. I disagree with you on your opinion as do the majority of the regulars on this blog. Saying the same thing 100 times isn't going to make your opinion more popular. |

First things first. Before even ENTERTAINING sending Sandin down... send Marinicin down. |
|
|
|
It would make sense to send Sandin down a while when Dermott is back.
After trade deadline, I expect to see both Sandin and Liljegren with Leafs. (6th and 7th d-men).
Rielly
Dermott
Muzzin
Barrie
Holl
Sandin
Liljegren
would be my 7 d-men to go with for playoffs.
(that is under the assumption that no significant trades are made) |

What are you basing your judgement of Lilgegren on?
He's not ready. |

Agree - could still be very good down the road, but even that is questionable at this point. Has not showed the drive, desire and hockey IQ of Sandin to this point. He's still a good prospect for the Leafs, his value as a trade chip is less than what it was IMO. |

Does Boston have the same personnel as the Leafs? If they did would they have handed out the same contracts? Who knows.
The Leafs can mitigate their cap situation and make roster changes in many ways. People said they wouldn't be able to sign those 4 forwards and yet Dubas and Pridham figured out a way to do so.
There's no reason the Leafs won't find a way to keep most of the core moving forward and make intelligent moves to manage the cap. |

Having Sandin come up for a new contract earlier could end up being a huge help to us.
Imagine if we had burned a year on Marner's contract in 2015? He would have come up a year earlier and we theoretically could have gotten him long term for cheaper.

It's surprising that people still think the leafs can't find a way. They said can't sign all the guys. They did. They said they can't get rid of marleau and zaitsev. They did. Now they're saying they have no room to add later on.. |

Sandin is so good that he's going to cost a fortune to resign, but we don't want him in the lineup. |

if you miss the net, best to keep moving the goal posts around so you have a better chance of getting one |

yes, yes.... this sums it up perfectly.
he should be out of the line up because he might cause the Leafs to not be CAP compliant three years from now.
Now THAT gentlemen - is forward thinking! |

Dermott ready? I can't see why they're sending him down, unless they're trying to save his ELC years and cap him at 6 games, save a few for later. |
