mom and dad got married at 18 and had kids at 20
dad worked his job, made enough money to raise a family well


then things changed, duel income is now essential, and the only couples having kids in the 18 to 20 year old range are military wives, and accidents

or people trying to get higher welfare checks


worst part is, if your not going to be a doctor, lawyer, or teacher
probably better off as an 18 year old to join the service, learn a skilled trade or start your own business as a degree is not worth what you invested in it, in the long haul

As a round number a family needs a household income of 100k plus, if not most likely your fighting to stay above water.

as an approximate you are probably not far off.. but that also depends upon your spending habits.. i graduated college with $300 to my name, took a job for $37k a year and by the end of that year had over $10k in savings all while going out with friends quite a bit.. i just wasn't stupid about it.

I wouldn't know because I have never tied the knot, but it appears to get more and more well-documented that you stop having sex once you get married...so maybe it's not as much the point as people think?

This is true.

I will admit, when I got married last year, we spent a good chunk of money on it. But we paid cash for it all. So we didn't put ourselves in debt, already had a house, and went to Hawaii for 10 days for the honeymoon.

Had our financial situation been different, we would have planned things differently. I could have bought a dress that was easily 6x what I spent on mine, but I didn't because that's just silly.

We're actually in the process of renovating our kitchen now. The cabinets we really liked at first would have been 25k. Which is insane. So we picked something else that was still the same quality, but less expensive, by more than half. So yes, there are women out there that are more pragmatic.

Believe it or not its about the same as having a wedding in Buffalo, it would be what your doing for a reception when you get back. If you went modest reception would be about the same.
