This should be, in theory, a much harder game than the one against the Canucks because the Flames are a much better team. Gonna need a better start today. |

So the best way to deal with players who like to fight is to use a spot in your lineup for a guy who will fight? That should be about 76th on the list of who is in the lineup, IMO.
To me, he would dress only if there was an issue in the Flyers lineup, not to address the other team's. - jmatchett383
Mix it up isn't the same as fight imo. Just sayin'
I think we do need a guy who will throw a hit and stand up for a team mate who is being abused. That may mean fighting, but in today's game I think it means, if you come after one of our guys with physical play, we will come right back you with our own.
Looking at our lineup, that is one thing we really lack.
Does that mean i want Stewart playing? Not really. But I wouldn't mind seeing Morin in there.

Nothing says both might not be there. With guy like Lucic in the lineup I want some tough guys there because Lucic is a guy who will take liberties.

I agree with Morin more than Stewart. Hagg plays a heavy game, but he isn't really a guy who will throw them if need be, and Morin is just bigger. Plus, the only way to gauge Morin is to give him some games.
And mix it up and fight may not be the same, but if you have two guys who are mixing it up, what is the almost inevitable outcomes? |

The best way to combat a player like that is to let him do it. Focus on playing your game and scoring and defending. Take any resultant PP's from it and make them pay the price that way. |

I agree. Calgary is still a good team. If they want to spoon feed the Flyers PPs all night, I say that them. Don't back down, but don't deviate from your plan either. |

That's exactly why a player like that does that. To get you off of your focus and more on the BS. Meanwhile Johnny Hockey and others are playing their game. |

"the Philadelphia Flyers will reportedly sign forward Chris Stewart to a one-way contract. For those who don’t remember, General Manager and Team President Chuck Fletcher signed the winger to a Professional Tryout deal back in July after he spent his 2018-19 campaign playing in the EIHL with the Nottingham Panthers. The agreement will carry a 750k cap hit with a 50k signing bonus, according to Frank Seravalli. He’s also expected to be in the lineup tonight against the Calgary Flames."

Good move. We needed a speedy sniper - DaveofYork
I'm not for or against this move, but it really makes you wonder what coaches seem to value in their players and what puts one player above another to make the squad. If it were skills alone, Farabee and Frost would be suiting up for the Flyers. Apparently Stewart has something that the coaches value. I personnaly can apppreciate Stewart's tenacity to make this comeback, but in the long run we will see if it all works out. |

GM's are involved in who makes the team. They also have to consider what is best for a young player. With Stewart, it's all about the intangibles. |

I can appreciate "intangibles". He may bring something that few other Flyers or prospects bring. Unlike some, I do trust what Fletcher, AV, Therrien, and Yeo are doing and by the transitive property I trust the Stewart move. |

I have no issue with the Stewart signing and I am certainly not going to lose sleep over the move.
We all complained last year that the Flyers had poor goaltending until Hart came up, poor coaching and were too easy to play against among other things.
IMO all 3 of those have been addressed and I think Stewart as a 12 or 13 forward is fine.
That being said I do want to see Morin in there at some point though I guess the discussion becomes after a solid start to the season , which Dman sits for him? |

He had a rough night in Vancouver. I think they give it the rest of this road trip, whether it's at LW or C, and then potentially make a roster move when they come back. Vorobyev is playing well for the Phantoms so far and they could live with him at 4C for awhile... they'd rather Rubtsov and Frost (who is pressing a bit offensively) play a lot of mins with the Phantoms first. - bmeltzer
10-1 he gets sent down so the guy who chuckles loves, Stewart, can get in the lineup. Nothing like playing slower older players in the place of younger ones who can keep up with the pace of the game

For those who replied to my comment about NHL Center Ice's lack of the HD Beta and offered comments and suggestions, thank you! They put it up mere hours after I posted yesterday. In Comcast, it sits as the first channel above all the center ice games....I prefer to get my eyes blurry with spirits rather than low res broadcasts... |

Intangibles? Sign me up! Maybe if he loses a testicle or smacks his face on the ice enough times he will be in line for a front office role next season. |

Dumb move to sign Stewart. There is no way to spin it. Team already has plenty of vets, all more talented btw. And we have talented kids in the AHL knocking on the door. Classic example of being loyal to a fault on Fletcher's part.
At least Hextall knew to keep his son in the AHL...

I still want to see Provy drop the gloves. He is not a fighter and never has been but he does boxing-style training in the offseason. I'd love to see some non-expecting punk entice him to a fight and get pummeled.
I miss the old NHL. |

So I guess signing Stewart just pushes back any chance of Farabee coming up anytime soon. Obviously they value Stewart more the Farabee right now with the big club. |
