Not against Stewie, but once Patrick is back Bunnaman goes down anyways, so then we would not be able to call up another kid? Or Patrick already counts against cap correct?
- ClaudeFather

Patrick is on the active roster and counts against the cap.

Which vets are you referring to? Before signing Stewart, the team was only carrying 12 forwards. If the Flyers want to bring up another kid, they can send Bunnaman down and call up another player. If they signed Stewart to be the 13th forward, it's okay, as you don't want a kid sitting. If he is a regular in the lineup, then he needs to show me more than I saw in the pre season to justify it.
- MJL

Vets are G, Jake, JVR, Coots, Niskanen, Braun, Elliott. They have a ton of veteran presence in the locker room already.

You or someone else is probably going to come back and say Stewart provides toughness or protection for players or something. He can only protect who he is on the ice with. Does the 4th line really need that? Anything else will just be a nothing staged fight. Meh.

If he's just going to be the defacto 13th forward, okay no big deal. But he's already in the lineup tonight. I just don't see what he adds.

Oh well. It's one year and minimum money. I just hope he doesn't end up taking ice time away from players that can help the team more.

Yea, I dont believe he was ever put on LTIR. I personally would have. Then again we have only played 3 games so far so maybe it isnt such a bad thing. 10 games puts us at next Sunday so its possible he might be available for game 6 and on.

But those arent guys who are going to sit in the press box. Stewart is not going to be an every game player like all the Vets. He is literally an emergency\tough guy player. It is better for him to sit out most nights than someone young. You need to play to get better. Farabee will be on this team at some point this season.

Glad you know what I'm going to come back and say!

I would not have signed Stewart. I'm on record and you should know this, as not being impressed with what I saw in pre season. I don't think he can play anymore. I think having a player on the roster for "protection" is a waste of a roster spot. However I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

Patrick is currently counting against our cap, which is the smart move as it keeps us from having to dip into LTIR and get penalties to the cap next season.

A lot of people are still very confused about how the cap works. Other than waiving and demoting Patrick, which they can't because he is injured, there is no way to remove him from the cap. Barring a trade.

anyone who thinks having that toughness on you team is a waste, listen to the recent mike richards interview. He talked about when he and carter went to the phantoms after juniors and looked down the bench. The phantoms had some tough customers. He said it is easier to play your game having that in your corner.

Yes they have lucic tonight. Having stewart in, you know you have a guy who will stand up for you and be able to do it better than lets say laughton trying to fight him. I know the days of the enforcers are gone (god i miss that) but you still need toughness on your team and as long as it is part of the game, fights will happen.

Like I said, if he's the defacto 13th forward for the year so be it. I don't think the guy should be taking anyone's minutes unless the kids we have all start looking like trash somehow.

Which is more egregious, LeBron bowing to totalitarian China or the Stewart signing?

The game has changed a lot in the last 10 years. It's not the same.

How many games did the Flyers go before their first fight last year. I'm not against tough guys but they better be able to contribute outside of that.

he may help benefit the team with shoot outs....so thats a plus to me. But yeah...he is close to the end of his career. Maybe a different kind of voice, calming joking. That's what i saw during the behind the glass anyway. The one segment talking to farabee about next game is up. joking and laughing

Having a player on your team simply because he supplies toughness is a waste. I don't care what Mike Richards says in an interview. This is not the AHL, it's the NHL. The Flyers should just ignore Lucic and let him run around in irrelevance.

well, to me that's because no one was willing to fight simmer, manning wasn't here to take a beating and gudas constantly tried. Wilson is goonish but plays a heavy game and will fight. ferland the same. simmer, lucic, reaves, martin, clifford, mcleod, glass, kassian.(just a few) Even St. Louis had guys that would fight and stand up for teammates and were able to fight. not throwing slaps like Semin. Even guys like Ovie have been dropping them recently. It's even better to me when the skilled guys throw. It's not the end all no. these players are still a valuable part of thier teams

Yes game has changed. Burke went off about this last year talking about how players used to hate each other and how now its a picnic in the hallways after games.

Yes, Stewart brings toughness, the ability to fight and leadership and intangibles to the room. If that's all he brings, then it's a wasted signing. If the Flyers weren't so tight against the cap, then it wouldn't really matter as the 13th forward. They have even less flexibility now. Once Patrick returns, even less.

Getting close to the 50-contract limit now too. They're at 48 by my count now. Probably need to keep one open to sign Laczynski, so they are effectively at 49.

Why am I supposed to care what a basketball player does towards China? He's not an elected official representing the US is he?
