Problem I see is they aren’t going to be able to give enough ice to everyone
They didn’t trade a first and Guhle for Montour, to play him 15 min a night and no PP time
They aren’t going to sit Miller considering he’s been excellent and has mentored Dahlin
They didn’t tell Jokiharju to go house shopping and trade for him to sit him in the press box
They didn’t slap a letter on McCabe to trade him
Dahlin is going nowhere
They either need to trade Scandella for probably nothing, considering he’s a pending UFA, or actually fill a need by moving 55.
It’s just obvious what’s eventually going to happen IMO - OneKaneOneCup
I know it’s unlikely that our opponents will score if we possess the puck in their end, and I know that’s we’ve been winning with aggression and pressuring the other team.
But I’m hung up that we’re constructing a blue line of offensive players whose strength is actually the antithesis of their position one the ice. McCabe is really the only stay at home guy in our lineup, and as much as I like him, nobody is calling him “great”.
Keeping Risto doesn’t address this concern, I know. I also see the way the game is trending. But I wonder if we have the right blend of skill sets.

Who saw the interview from today where the coach spoke glowingly of Risto by saying he plays the PP, PK, offensively, physically "that we need, just a COMPLETE PLAYER"
This is not going to sit well with the Risto is the second coming of Satan crowd. It might get people even questioning Kreuger - GilPerreault11
The same one where he said Sobotka doesn’t get nearly enough credit and is a role model for the rest of the team? I think Kroogs was having his own ketamine sesh in the indigenous sweat tent. |

If you called the Devils right now and they said Ristolainen and Mittelstadt gets a deal done for Hall, would you do it? What if they also ask for a 1st? - kingcong39
WHAT?!?!
No freaking way
Why on earth anyone would overpay like that for a guy that’s gonna be UFA is beyond me?
Just wait till the summer & sign him
Few teams, especially good ones, will have the Cap Room we have
No reason to rush things |

Is it possible they use both Ristolainen and McCabe as trade capital to get what they need at forward with their defense depth? |

I guess we will have to wait and see what happens when Montour comes back, then we will see what Botts and Krueger do, who they think fits the way they want there system played. There are teams out there hurting for defensemen. It's just who is willing to give up that player that helps the Sabres. Who knows what player Botts might be willing to give up for that player, some people around here might be surprised. |

Is there a difference between an offensive defenseman and one that can make a great outlet pass to get the puck out of the defensive zone?
It seems that label and that skillset get interchanged frequently, and that might not be accurate? |

For right now Sobotka is playing his role that has been given to him by Krueger, and he is doing a pretty good job of it, sure they probably want to upgrade there for more offense. But just maybe with the confidence Krueger has shown in him Sobotka puts up 30pts to 40pts on that line. We don't need another 30 to 40 goal score on that line (it would be nice) or a 60 to 70pt guy, (again be nice) we have that with Skinner and maybe Joho, we need somebody to do the dirty work for, them and Sobotka does that |

Borgen is close close. And Samuelson is a bit further back. And I think they are big and angry.

I agree that he does his role well, but there has to be the ability to get Skinner and Johannson the puck. Sobotka is really good at pressuring the opposing team to give up the puck, but the points do not reflect.
I would almost rather him have that job on a line with Mitts and Vesey to give them some space to make plays, and let Sheary provide additional offense on the MoJo line. |

Neither has proven anything against "men" yet.
Cozens is doing what he is supposed to do, and from what it seems Caufield is as well.
If you're a high draft pick, you should make your peers look foolish in your respective junior/college league.
I'm not looking into the future anymore, because as great as it is to have players of that caliber they aren't able to make an impact today.
Their growth is important, but cannot help the team tonight in Anaheim, or last night for Montreal. |

I agree with you, but Sobotka has been able to put points up in his career before, he will never be that 50-60 point guy, but 30 to 40 with those two is not out of the question. Until they find that person we will just have to live with what he offers or until at least Sheary is healthy

So far he's playing the game they want him to on that line. He's forechecking and creating space for Skinner and Johansson to do their thing. Does it show up on the scoresheet for him most of the time? No. But that doesn't mean that he's not making an impact.
I get it, in general you'd expect that a guy on the second line would have a decent stat line, but as we've alllllllllllll said dozens of times, the stat sheet doesn't tell the full story and I think this is the perfect example of that. Sobotka didn't get an assist on Johansson's goal Monday, but he for sure played a large part in it being scored. |

I've maintained that he plays a solid role for that line, despite his inability to add offense. If this team could manage to trade for a physical, space creating 40-50 point center, you can finally rid yourself of the guy. Unfortunately, he's needed to win faceoffs and create space. Which, love it or hate it.. he does. |
