I've maintained that he plays a solid role for that line, despite his inability to add offense. If this team could manage to trade for a physical, space creating 40-50 point center, you can finally rid yourself of the guy. Unfortunately, he's needed to win faceoffs and create space. Which, love it or hate it.. he does. - TheSabresTaco
Exactly. Is there room for improvement? I'd say yes, but is he disrupting that line and making it ineffective? I'd say no.
it could probably benefit from someone who can do the things he does AND show up on the scoresheet more regularly, but again, that's not really the be all end all. Skinner and Johansson both scored last game. One he got an assist on and the other he didn't, though you could really say that he played a very large role in that goal by winning the faceoff and driving to the net to disrupt Bishop a bit. |

Ya know, this coach essentially promised that he'd put players in position to succeed. He hasn't let us down. No, he's not increasing the talent levels of the players, but he's taken trash like Sobotka and Okposo and put them in roles to succeed, as much as they can. That "4th" line is absolutely killing it, and Sobotka and Scandella, while offensively dim, are no longer the absolute black holes they were under Housley.
I think it's extremely interesting. |

How much time do you have? Go through the first 7 or 8 blogs, starting the day of the draft.
Then we can talk about how there's only one prospect worth drafting in the 2019 draft. Everyone else is Brandon Meyers or worse. |

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I had my favorites too going into draft day, and out of all the players that would possible be available when we were on the clock, the only player I would've definitely taken before Cozens was Turcotte and the only other I would've considered was Zegras. Turcotte wasn't available and I trust in the fact that Botts and his staff know way more about hockey than I ever will. So as soon as they called Cozen's name I became his fan and will never look back. It is all a crap shoot, but I am happy with what I've seen so far and if Zegras or Cole or anyone else picked after Cozens turns out to have a better career, then good for them. |

Just saying that we shouldn't be worried about what players we didn't draft are doing. Has Krueg's positive attitude not sunk in yet? |

The early projections don't always pan out exactly either. Remember when Sam Bennett was projected higher than Reinhart? And then came into the league looking a bit more ready than Reinhart? I'd for sure say that at this point, Reinhart was the better pick of the two and I don't think that's just me being a homer. |

Debatable at best as it pertains to a second liner. Hopefully they swing a trade at some point during the year |

Samson changed his game around to be able to hang i the league long term. Hes a much different player now then he was back then. Guys like grigerenko who never changed their game are goners. |

You've already made up your mind about the fact that he's useless. Might as well just say he had nothing to do with the 4th goal the other day, even though he played a huge role in it. But he didn't get on the scoresheet for it, so it doesn't count. Am I doing this right? |

No, not useless. Not good enough to play on the 2nd line in the NHL. He can finish the year at 65% on draws, but being on pace for 13 points on the 2nd line wont cut it. That's just abysmal, hence my desire for a trade |

Your Sobotka crush is showing ๐๐. Sobotka isn't killing us this year, and faceoffs are helping, but when he goes to the boards for a puck battle he loses almost every time. Ideally he is a third liner at best, but he is working hard as a stop gap for now. |

Trust me, there's no crush. I'm honestly grateful that he's been what I consider to be serviceable so far.
I'd love to see them get more out of him than we've seen, but just don't think it's in the cards. I do feel like an upgrade at that spot would be nice, but I don't think it's the biggest concern at the moment. I'd like to see them figure out how to get the 3rd line going first. |

I think a few people here are right. The Sabres coaching staff and management hope he is just keeping the spot warm for Tage Thompson later in the year. |

That may be true. I'd like to see Thompson's physical game take the next step. He looked like Bambi out there too often last year. |

Let it go...he does what he does. Everyone grows at a different pace. NOT to mention, this is a team game.... Teams can shut down one player if they have too.
