You dont get used to travel. Travelling a lot doesnt make you immune to the effects like jet lag. Perhaps you can handle it better but at the same time the flyers arent a team that travels around the world often. It was said they travelled 17,000 miles or kilometers cant remember which up to their arrival on vancouver
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Sure you do. They're finely tuned professional athletes. They travel all the time. Like I said previously, many teams travel twice as much as the Flyers do. If it had that much of an effect, those teams would be effected the most. It's no excuse for their performance last night. They had plenty of legs. They just weren't sharp with the puck.

ok...fair enough, we'll see. I want to be wrong about this (as I said before), but I only see mediocrity until there is a major turnover of this roster
- DaveofYork

Here is the telling point. You stated you've been saying it for years. This is a new team with numerous new players and a new coaching staff. That comment shows that you've made up your mind and aren't being objective. What happened in past years, doesn't matter now.

Only two teams flew back and forth to Europe early this season.

What are JVR and V pacing rates? Trending based on 4 games stats makes no sense.

Let's look at it when we have a larger sample size.

4 games or 40 games it is silly to project these things out. Just like it is silly to say Hayes has eclipsed 60 points in a season cause he was "projected" to.

The two biggest issues on this team right now is the play of Voracek and Giroux.
- MJL

agree with voracek, g has been snake bitten imo. I would put ghost on that list.

i'm not even trying to nitpick with you, but hayes had one of, if not the best, chance to tie the game up towards the end of the game last night. also, you're still complaining that he's on pp1, but i think he has their only goal, doesn't he?
- Ftown19125

Hayes has had a lot of great chances in four games. He’s been in dangerous areas but he has to cash in and he hasn’t.

You can say nice try for almost scoring to a rookie like Joel Farabee but at the end of the day, he was sent to the AHL.

can't argue with you there and i 100% agree. you could say the same for giroux. i have no idea what's going on with voracek, he just looks pretty bad.

Did anyone keep count, or did the commentators mention the total number of icings?

Slow/sloppy play aside, the sheer number of icings felt like more than I'd seen from this team in a long long time.

- GrittySauce

it was 11 when i heard them say it...that was in the third i believe. I get the travel stuff...kind of. but the passing to no one within 30 feet or directly to a flames player last night was ridiculous. Surprised the first period wasn't 4 to nothing.

Last year and this off season. The Flyers PP is predictable. Teams know what they're going to do. They need to change it. Four games in, the Flyers need to go back to how the PP was last year.
- MJL

the 4 on three with absolutely no one moving except the puck carrier was painful to watch.

Giroux was not good last night. I didn't see the Vancouver game but he was also subpar in the previous two games.

At least go with what’s worked. Giroux on the right side with a right handed shot, when he plays the opposite wing at even strength makes no sense to me. Jake on the left when he plays right makes no sense to me. The possession and passing was fantastic after the time out was called, most notably between Giroux and Couturier. I think Coots needs to be on the top PP unit.

Last night, they were outworked. Badly.

The first page of this thread reminded me of Robin Williams' schizophrenia routine.
No, it didn't.
Shut up.
No, you shut up.
Both of you shut up.
Stay out of this, you don't know what you're talking about.

Can’t wait until “Stewie “ gets acclimated to the pace of the game. Shocked no complaints about him

I’m glad you guys aren’t getting all up in arms on me today. Like, I’m happy AV is giving Ghost a reality check by sitting him after the time out. I was the one who started the “he’s a third pair player, PP specialist”. I stand by it because his play is too up and down. I was the one who started the “Voracek isn’t an elite winger in the league”. Hard to argue because he’s also inconsistent. He’s just a healthy player.

wtf? What is this based on?
- jmatchett383

That TK is a high risk player
Perfect as 2nd or 3rd line RW
Just saying he shouldn't play topline now
28-14-93 is the only option even if both 28 and 93 are not rolling right now

TK should play with Lindblom and Hayes

I thought it was the huge contract he signed, his inability to stay healthy, and a complete nosedive in offensive production.

And all along, it was because he was having fun.

- jmatchett383

I believe a dialogue would work better than throwing darts.

Perhaps his "complete nosedive in offensive production" was because his and coaching staff disagreements on how a game should be played. I recall him stating (and I am paraphrasing, of course) that he was tired of coaching modifying his game and he wants to play "his" game and have fun". I am unable to find that in a quick search, but if the dialogue continues, I will try.
