At least the guy has a ring on his resume (granted that Av's team was loaded). Whereas Hynes has 1 playoff win in 4 years. - hockeybocc
My wife has a ring on her finger and she can't coach either |

Question to the Devil’s fans. I’ve only watched a couple of games, but did Hughes start on the first line and get dropped to the third or did has he been on the third the whole time? |

Been there the whole time, Hynes did the same thing with Nico too. Just today he got moved up to the 1st line in practice, but Nico is day to day so thats probably why |

Totally non-biased opinion, but Hughes just doesn’t look ready. That being said I don’t think he’s getting the look he should be. Hopefully getting first line time will benefit him. |

Hall was born in Calgary.
Why not trade him to Calgary (he signs there) for Gaudreau (has a few years left on contract I think)... |

Hughes looks fine. Hes been playing great. Just snake bitten. Once the first goes in, it'll snowball. But every game hes more confident, taking the puck and doing his thing. |

You're absolutely right. He definitely has the skill, but right now the game is too quick and too physical for him to display it. Not sure moving him up is the right answer or not, but I'm sure with the entire team desperate for results it has to be having an effect w/ increased pressure. |

His first 2 games were terrible, but hes actually been looking good the last 3 or 4. Hes gaining more confidence as he goes and its been showing, hes been one of our better players lately. His usage hasnt been great, he should be playing top 6 minutes with legit top 6 wingers that can actually capitalize on the opportunities he gives them, not playing with players like Wood or Simmonds. Some people just like to look at the box score and see his 0 points and think hes not playing well, but if he had a little more puck luck he could easily have 3-4 points by now and nobody would be talking about it lol |

Not sure how a guy playing top minutes/game, plenty of PP looks, with 0 points in 6 contests is considered snake bitten? He is averaging 2 SOG/game also.
I know he is great and has talent, but after watching these first 6 games I think he needed some more time to develop. |

Playing great? He plays a sound game, but physically looks like a child out there.
He SHOULD be on the first line though to really assess where he’s at. |

They need to be careful and not do what AZ does to young talent. They’re handling him like they do Strome and look how that turned out. |

He needs to just play, plain and simple. They tried sheltering him in the first couple of games and it was a disaster, just let the kid play, he's too talented. They started to use him more over the past couple of games and you can tell from just watching that hes more confident doing his thing. Now just give him better linemates and he'll be fine. Like i said, hes been one of our better players recently, if the puck luck has gone his way and hes gotten a few points nobody would be talking about it. But instead he's hit 3 posts, Hall was robbed by Hart with the save of the year on a nice pass from Hughes and hes sitting here with 0 points and people that only box score watch think hes playing poorly |

Never said he was playing poorly and the kid totally has incredible skill. I’m not a standard fan who wants to hate on players not on my team. I’m a fan of hockey first.
I’m excited to see him play. I’m just saying that he physically looks over his head. |

Well of course he does lol, thats not a shock to anybody. But you said he doesn't look ready, which just isnt true. If he still continued to look how he did in the first 2 games then i'd agree, but he's taken steps since then and is settling in/adjusting, getting more comfortable and gaining confidence with each game and its showing in his game. |

I guess that depends on your definition of ready. To me it’s not about skill, it’s about handling the speed and physicality of the game and yes, you expect that of most young players, but generally with players of his level of ability you generally expect a faster acclimation.
Not saying he won’t get there, but just not sure he’s quite ready at the level. You look at guys like Matthews, Gaudreau, McD, Rantanen, etc... and they hit the ground running. Hughes isn’t really hitting the ground running. |

All of those guys are also bigger than Hughes, so its not really comparable. And Gaudreau didnt play in the league until he was 20 or 21 and wasnt a top overall pick, gotta remember Hughes is only 18 and wont turn 19 until after this season is over. Idk if you arent reading what im saying but he is certainly adjusting his game and acclimating to the NHL style game, he's fit in well the past couple of games and doesnt look out of place at all. Does he get knocked around some? Sure, thats gonna happen, but his skill has been apparent and hes been creating chances. He was completely over-matched and looked in over his head in the first 2 games, that hasnt been the case since. |
