Simon isn’t a scorer. But this team doesn’t really have that absent Crosby (who isn’t a shoot first guy) and guentzel, who isn’t a devastating sniper but gets by on decent skill and sense all around.

Who else can really go there that fits your role you’re looking for? Hornqvist isn’t exactly a sniper either and in all honesty he probably isn’t fast enough to even be in position to join that rush.

Didn't Adam Johnson just bury one very similar to that. Tedy Blueger has the potential, his shooting percentage is out of sight. Kahun did it in Chicago last year.

So yes there are guys out there who fits that role. Not to mention three or four on IR. Simon is getting his chance right now and I hope he stays there for another ten games to see just how good he is. But if he continues to prove he has no scoring touch then those other guys are going to get there chance. Metrics or not Simon will have played himself of that coveted position.

Does it take into account how many Goals Simon had anything to do with? The Sid I just watched doesn’t need help with zone entries, and Hornqvist almost sent McKinnon to the lockeroom. Simon missed the net on a gimme because he couldn’t one touch it and made a somewhat nice pass. Oh boy he’s great.
