Just watched the complete game.
I thought the Leafs played quite well against a good Washington team.
Obviously goaltending is not up to par, and Leafs had a short meltdown in that 2nd period.
But in general Leafs put in a good effort, and never gave up.
If they continue to play like this, they won't have issues like in previous games (e.g. vs Habs.) - MaximusAurelius

I hope you're right. I'm worried we are worse this year than last - walshyleafsfan
Take away the hot start and the team wasn't that good last year either.
I've been doing some work in the living room recently so I've watched a few other teams. One thing I've noticed? The ice seems "bigger" watching other games. The play moves more freely through the neutral zone. That's when I noticed other teams don't use the same identical break out strategy every single time. We've been figured out ladies and gentlemen. |

The Leafs are fools gold. They have beaten the Sens, Jackets, Wings and Minny. Four of the worst teams in the league. Their top end players bank points against weaker teams and then are dominated against better, bigger, talented clubs. This trend started mid last season and shows no sign of ending soon
As a Leaf fan, I can't even watch anymore. It is over, before it even began |

What we all need to remember is that our stars are also young. They need a few more years imo. Sad thing is Dubas should know this and stop making trades to win now (Muzzin, Barrie, Etc). All this does is hamper our future and put pressure on this team to win now. Signing JT last year really amped the pressure... if we had not signed him, would we have much pressure? We would probably all be thrill with being a playoff team. Not saying you dont sign JT, but lets just remember who this team really is... |

I know I get a lot of blow back on my criticisms of the Tavares signing. But, it has adversely impacted the essential synchronicity or natural order necessary for building a Stanley Cup winner. Most problematic are the huge CAP pressures on the top end of the roster. It gets worse next year.
As Tavares assumes a stronger leadership role (going back to around Christmas of last year) the Leafs have started to look more and more like the Islanders. It is pure blah.
Trading Kadri was a huge error.
I was huge supporter of Shanaplan. Starting to have doubts about Dubas' understanding of how it can be delivered.

They aren't winning cause of them. They're winning cause McDavid and Draisaitl are in beast mode, and Neal helping too.

This is a awful take. They lose on a back to back against Washington with Hutchinson in net and you post this? Go back to thinking Ottawa is a contender |

before this season, most people would classify Neal as an AHL winger though |

seriously, what a bunch of debbie downer crying going on
There is no perfect way to build a team, lots of luck and most times it takes years of trying. Stl and Washington were picked to win the cup for the last decade and eventually won. SJ has been the same and not won yet
Its not like its this season and its all over

Not sure this is accurate. I thought he was primed for a bounce back year, thus why I took him in my draft |

By the way some of these guys are talking it looks like we should just blow up the team. If only we had the Sens excellent rebuilding plan...
I am hoping we have a player interview Larry Tannenbaum and talk about whats in store for the team. I suggest we use Marincin, or Spezza |

william nylander's haunted moustache
@mostlyleafies
William Nylander missed his first shot tonight so people on here are talking about how he misses all the time. Here are the Leafs top-9 Fs by miss% of unblocked attempts this season:
Tavares 58%
Kerfoot 38%
Mikheyev 30%
Marner 29%
Moore 28%
Matthews 27%
Nylander 17%
Johnsson 19%
my eyes tell me willie misses 95% of the shots tho |

Honestly Nylander doesnt shoot enough right now. He's got a great shot, and needs to start being more selfish. |

what if I told you that the Leafs are doing fine and the goaltendin will level off and not stay at .891

Shot share (coloured by GF%)
If TOR and FLA continue to dominate shots the way they have, their results will look more and more like CAR and BOS' results.
If TBL keeps controlling shots like DAL and NJD, their results will start to look more like DAL and NJD's results.

To appease the Debbie Downer Patrol, I will say that the Leafs have only won 24 of their last 50 regular season games, one ahead of the Oilers.
Do we blow it up or do we blow each other? The time has cum to decide. |

Good goaltending can cover defensive mistakes. Bad goaltending can make defensive mistakes look worse.
They need to add another D-man to pair with Rielly, and they need Andervember to show up. |

I dont see ceecee working at all with Rielly, both weak defensivly. putting them both out against the top lines is asking for problems
Babs put ceecee out for the 2nd most ice time last night., |
