Bellerive is not having a good start down there. 0's across the board.

DeSmith's numbers are pretty awful, I'm sure half of the team being up is having an effect on the latter.

- Thorny87

Wow, yah, that is a weak start for sure. I expect a new coach and heavy turnover at the top with the call ups is taking its toll.

Yeah definitely a major difference in value between relentless effort guy (Bobby Farnham) and relentless effort guy with useful hockey skills (Tanev)
- YouMeAndDupuis9

Yah, we aren't talkin Joe Vitale here. (who is awesome in the broadcast booth btw)

Hopefully. Paired with is very underwhelming pre season and rookie tourney I think he may have peaked.

Yeah I mean Hornqvist is probably a crappier contract than Tanev. On the scale of bad contracts its probably Johnson, Gudbranson, Horny, then Bjug.

Yeah Pavlychev is a senior. He's been slowing adding offense to his game.. 29 points in 39 games last season. He could be our version of Lowry.

- YouMeAndDupuis9

Hornqvist still scores at > 25 goal pace for an 82 game season, and he doesn't even get assists for every goal he directly causes through timing his screens perfectly. If you think another is as good as he is in that regard, on a regular basis, then I just disagree.

The combination of speed, forecheck, ability to draw penalties, and frankly his ability to carry the puck up ice, is very unique and I can see why Sully and GMJR were so damn happy to sign him.

You are right though, just by simply saying relentless motor, it is sort of lame. It's the NHL, 95% of the players have it.

This is a fair assessment.

I cant comment on game-to-game, shift-to-shift consistent efforts of guys I dont watch but, despite Hagelin's speed, he was about 50% effort for the first half of the regular season a few years in a row.

Thanks for proving my point.

Didn't say that at all.... actually the point I was making was more about how we dont really have that many "bad" contracts.

In regards to Horny, of course he has a ton of value, he's got unique skills... like the convo we were just having about Tanev. But in the context of age + AAV + term...he might be the worst contract outside of JJ + 44.

I’m kind of surprised ZAR is on the 3rd line over Lafferty in practice.

Bellerive was one o the first cuts in camp and a healthy scratch for WBS's first game. Lots of fourth line time, he definitely needs to earn his way up, Aggozino, Palve, and Blandisi are all ahead of him at C now.

WBS has a few too many forwards so some guys are getting caught in the numbers game. Disappointing Bellerive has been one of them, but that's on him.

You would be. I'm more surprised Kahun is still on the second line.

That's the difference that RW doesn't understand

"Useful 4th liners who can be had for the league minimum" are literally Joe Vitale

We saw what the Pens looked like with Joe Vitale types on the 3rd and 4th lines

3 million per year is the new "average". People are going to have to get used to it. 3 Million is no longer a "Bad" contract for a regular NHL player. Tanev might be an "average" player by some metrics, but he is a "Premium" or "High End" of average. And what you are seeing is the difference that an extra 500k or Million per year gets you

-Draws Penalties
-Kills Penalties
-Can move up and down the lineup
-Relentless Motor
-Plays Physical
-Will get you 12-15 goals
-Doesn't appear to made of glass (Like Rust)

Speaking of made of glass...I love the blocked shots in the playoffs (obv.) but holy poop...someone needs to tell G and Rust, they are more valuable on the ice than off the ice. especially G, thought he got injured twice last night

Notable d with 100+ mins 5v5 with a higher giveaway per 60 than Letang: Klingberg. Petry. Ellis. Subban. Doughty. Gardiner. Klefbom. Green. Carlson. Josi. Karlsson. McAvoy.

The last 4 are the highest of the 90 d that met the criteria.

That's quite the list of quality, elite even d-men, and thanks for sharing it.

“Intangibles the puck to the net” Way to try and downplay a great effort. If that was Simon every minuscule bit of jv hockey knowledge that went into it would have been broken down and analyzed to the tenth degree. “Did you see how he had his head up?”. “He entered the zone with the puck on his stick”. “He made a crisp line change”.

Is it completely based off goals and assists? I’m doing fantasy with my old hockey pals again this year. It’s actually fun when you have hits, pim’s, blocked shots and face off wins. For awhile everything was based off points and like 4 years in a row the draft order just determined everything.

This is my first year fantasy free but my old pool was a 16 team $100 buy in with 10 skater stats and 5 goalie stats for head to head. It's up to the admin of the pool for which stats are used a d then it's locked in once the season starts.

Read a DK article where he interviewed JR and it sounds like all three call-ups will initially be sent back as the Pens get healthy with no current intentions of making a move to free up a spot for one of them.

That being said, I’m of the opinion a lot can change in a month and if Lafferty doesn’t lose steam the mindset may change.
