He's brand new here. Is he going to come in and throw any of the players under the bus? That would just be suicide. Player won't want to play for him and now you've got a disgruntled player who's struggling. Great trade bait....

He has had some criticisms of guys, but he goes about doing it in a way that doesn't imply the player is terrible. He's essentially McDermott but for hockey. The parallels between the two are pretty crazy when you really start looking at it.

I don't think Krueger is a "faith based leader", thank God.

The key to the Sabres’ start has to be new coach Ralph Krueger that has the group playing extremely staunch defense. They rank fourth in shot attempts and expected goals against leading to stingy actual numbers. The Sabres have become difficult to penetrate on most nights which would’ve been hard to believe when looking at the mostly unimposing roster.

I still don’t think much of the group of players here outside the stars and wouldn’t be surprised if the team’s shot share comes back down to earth going forward, but it’s clear Krueger has been able to get more out of this group than previous regimes could. Whether he can get enough to bring this team back into the playoffs will be one of this season’s most fascinating storylines.

I don't disagree.
However, in Ullmark's defense, the old adage of the 1st save is the responsibility of the goalie, the 2nd (and 3rd) are those of the Dmen comes into play here.

You point yesterday about needing a mix of defensive minded Dmen rather than all puck movers once again rings true.

That said, I don't see Ullmark as a No 1, but he could develop into a decent backup.

- IonSabres

That's all true, however, good goalies will make those second stops. Ullmark also just has trouble moving laterally, on the Getzlaf goal he was way late, and that was even with Getzlaf shooting from beyond the dot.

Survive the first period and the Sabres will be fine tonight against the Kings. If Quick is playing it’ll be even better for the Sabres.

As a guy who had a handicapped sister, I can tell you there were many of fights on the playground because of that word.

There are better words to use.

- dadeadhead

There are, but no one is on here calling handicapped people "retarded". As it stands, the word has been reappropriated and is just another item on a long list of "things that offend Americans" which is a list of literally everything at this point.

I can go to the store and buy fire retardant items. Maybe we should write congress about that one?

If someone has a relative with any mental disability, and the word "retarded" or any other use of it offends you as highly as you claim, then you're the one who has the issue.

Your family member isn't retarded, the kids who called your family member that because of a disability are the retards. Pretty simple.

You know they used to call mentally handicapped people "idiots", right? I don't see anyone in here making a big stink over the constant use of the word IDIOT in our everyday vernacular.

The funniest thing is, that if you never told a person that a certain word is derogatory toward them, they might never know and in turn, you're the one that exposed them to a hurtful situation that they wouldn't have been aware of without the wonderful insight from someone completely different telling them that certain words are a weapon, but only against them.

As it stands, using almost any word is an expression of our freedom of speech - You don't need to call out on it because as a society we have dictated certain words and opinions to be immoral and unjust, derogatory or inflammatory. We all know Over50 is a jerk, literally everything he says reveals him to be one. Nit-picking ONE and only ONE word in a long list of vocalized idiocy is incredibly self-righteous.

If the guy is a man of God, let his Lord judge him when all is said and done.

The girl I’m seeing right now is finishing her nursing degree in December but works every weekend with people with disabilities. I used the word “retard” once by accident and she got so visibly upset. I haven’t used the word once since.

Really hate that commercial. First, why did the kid fling his clean underwear on the floor anyway ? And wouldn't it become instantly dirty if it hit the bathroom floor ? Second, why is a bear wearing underwear ? Third, why are they all red ? Fourth, if the kid wears underwear, but wasn't at the time, and nobody else was either, are they nudists ? Lastly, how are they all talking ? Aren't they bears ? For that matter, what are they doing in that house ? Do they own it ? HOW !?!
- kritter65

I haven't seen the commercial but seeing this gif I see a bear dancing with his underwear and then something getting wiped off people's arms (I think). I have no idea what's going on.

Words have power.

Everyone has their own background. I think we can all avoid using words that might be hurtful or stigmatizing while still getting our point across. I personally don't like hearing or reading f*g or any homophobic slurs. I'm not gay, but like the posters here who took offense to what he said, I have family and friends who are. Repeating this kind of language perpetuates stereotypes and dehumanizes a group.

It is especially ironic and hilariously self-unaware coming from a professed christian, who, according to the values of its founder, should value all human life equally

Not true actually.

In many passages of the gospel we learn that Jesus favored sinners and physically infirm. “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

for the most part, when the team plays good, the goalie plays good

if the d plays like crap, the goalie will look blah as well, except for those rare occasions where the goalie steals a point or 2

I think I read (red) somewhere the other day, the average shot allowed by the sabres on their goalie was further then any other team from their net minder

this was not the case last night, nor the exception to the rule on goalies

I think scandella and joker were fine, the other 4 d men all had brutal games in our end

hopefully it will rebound tonight

I am curious on Dahlin

does he go back to top PP
does he get a night in the presser and we see gilmore?

Probably, it was likely for ice-time sake. Back-to-back and they had a ton of PP's in the last 2 periods.

Heard an interview, believe it was Ray, that said he did it to give a different look. No issue with that, they were struggling to get anything going. It was interesting that it was Miller, not Risto. I expect him to be right back in tonight.

Why not try getting a new whipping boy. His points and Corsi stats say he’s doing just fine. He’s plus one while jack is -3 so I guess Jack sucks too. I can only imagine the hate you’d have for him if he had a turnover like Risto did on goal #2 against last night or himself out of position as Risto did on goal #4. And I think Risto has played a lot better this year, albeit not last game.

Love how our “fans” nit-pick our superstars

- turbo044

I’m not nitpicking. He hasn’t played well in 3-4 games. He will improve and he’s not a whipping boy. His mistakes did lead to goals against
