Yup, if we limit the amount that the other team is able to score, while simultaneously scoring more goals than the other team, it's probably a recipe for winning.

If only we had a goalie as good as Garrett Sparks

My theory on the kid has always been this:

Growing up, his skating was so superior to his opponents that he never had to become great at passing it out - he would always skate it out.

He can't always do that anymore at the NHL level - so when he gets boxed in, he has absolutely no idea what to do with it. You can smell his panic.

I like this Bill James comment I read in one of his prospectus books. He talked about how every player who gets drafted is good at baseball. They may have been heroes in high school or college or what-have-you, but the opposition are constantly studying and evolving, and as you get higher and higher in the ranks, there are more and more people and higher levels of analysis attempting to figure how to beat you. Those who can't adapt simply can't make it. Those who can adapt - and adapt quickly - will last.

Since baseball is a little more one-on-one than hockey, there are variations, but the principal remains the same. Everyone is trying to exploit a weakness and these days with the plethora of video and analysis software, the ability to spot one is insanely enhanced. Players who aren't well rounded or who don't have a 'high hockey IQ' as they like to say, are going to be exposed.

I say this will honest respect - it's a testament to Gardiner's overall abilities that he has lasted this long, because he is not very adaptable.

Yup. thin TVs are pretty neat. Wallmounting is pretty cool too if you have the money to have the cable routing done right
- TheMussel

I paid someone $200 to come mount one of my TVs to the wall properly (55inch). I like it so much better that I dont have to find a huge space to put it.

Let’s just look at a goalies avg and then blame him...much easier and zero reason to watch a game.

But Gardiner got 3 years more, has back concerns, and would play a hell of a lot more than he is in Carolina, which is a concern to me.

Leaf have a coach that overplay a lot of players and hurts the team. The actual good players get played less than they should, of course.

Is Gardiner good? Was he 1 of our better D when he was here?

I did a 20 page "særoppgave" (no idea what that is in English) on the Bismarck in school.

I need a bigger TV.
- Scabeh

There was a convo in here about 7 - 10 days ago... take a look at Costco or similar there's plenty of reasonable cost choices with warranties.

My first one crapped out about 7 days.in.. exchange no issue .. golden sine

He's good, he's just a #4 guy/PP specialist. If you try to give him more than that his mistakes are going to become more frequent.

You speak with a tone of authority that is in direct contrast to reality.

Right? I've hung several now, complete with conduit to hide the wires. It's not very difficult.

I think there is a huge difference between baseball and other team sports (hockey, football (not american football. but actual football)) - with regards to the dynamics and being able to find exploits.
it is why the 'advanced stats' in those two other sports are not very developed - very tough to find patterns in situations that are not repetitions.

All my tvs are mounted. I have a 55” in my living room on the fireplace, but I can pull it out 19” and swivel it so it’s pointed directly at my kitchen. The mount cost like $500 nearly 10 years ago but it’s been well worth it. I can aim it at the bar or the stove or whatever, it’s perfect.

that price included the mount

But yes it was complicated. It was over a fireplace and there were studs in the way and it took 5 hours with my help. he said it usually takes him 1-1.5 hours

We have a TV in the backyard in our tiki bar.

The TV is probably 6 years old.

If somebody stole it, I'd be more upset that they stole the mount.

Maybe if we get better goaltending, our D will be better
- PatC80

I mean, Freddy has only really had one bad game.

He's had a few bad spurts in other games, letting in a soft goal hear and there, but only one game he should've lost. He deserved better against St. Louis.

Hutch on the other hand. Be nice to see him be better.
