The dude still has another year left after this season.. Chicago really messed up on that one.

Well, except for that Cup dynasty with him.

Just spit balling here but what about Hjalmarsson?

He's a steady RHD who is out for 3 months. Yeah, he's signed next year at 5 AAV but that might work both now and next year. Probably cheaper than any other top-four RHD they would bring in as a UFA.

- JohnFergusonJr

Hasn't he already came out and said he doesn't want to play on a Canadian team? I forget exactly but pretty sure it was something along those lines.

Jesus, Zezel - it's already been covered!

Must be pretty embarrassing to post something after somebody else has already posted it.

Idiot.

Maybe this is just a ploy - to lull Boston into a false sense of security.

Then on Saturday night, Tavares will secretly take the warmup at Nathan Phillips Square - and then they'll announce he is playing.

Dubas is a franking genius.

Chicago won three Stanley Cups with him on that contract.

But please, Leafs fan, tell me how Chicago screwed up.

Toronto fans would kill for that kind of screw up.

Any team that signed a player for 10+ years screwed up.. It lead to a lockout..

I'm going to be pissed when Babcock announces Hutchinson is starting on Saturday night.

Too bad as the Leafs do need his leadership on the ice when things aren't going good.

Well I would GLADLY appreciate my team screwing up like Chicago did.

The rest of the league can go (frank) itself while I gloat with my cheap stanley cup rings replicas.

Tough break for JT and the Leafs. But if only for 2-3 weeks...and this time of the year. No biggie. Every team will encounter such an injury and much worse. Just an opportunity for the Leafs to try some young guy in the top 6 (or old guy, if Spezza).

Shouldn't be an issue at all. Leafs still have Matthews, Marner, Nylander...plenty of guys to score.

It is behind the blue-line that work needs to be done, and maybe the team gels and begins to play better defense. See....all roses!!!

Problem is, the Leafs defensive game sucks and they need Tavares to help score themselves out of trouble.

Also, his FO winning will be missed which will create even more defensive problems.

He's not a RHD he's left hand D that plays the right side.

Would like to see Mikheyev on the Matthews line for a game or two. Be serious to see what that looks like.

Here's what I would like to see while Tavares is out.

Have Nylander center the second line, move Marner to play with Matthews and Johnsson. Then Nylander is centering Moore and Mikheyev.

Any takers there? Or is that too much juggling around.

If he can play with Rielly, he's fine by me.

I don't think Matthews or Nylander are as good apart as they are together. Avoid splitting them up if possible. Spezza to the 2nd line and see how that works. If (when) it fails, then you start considering Nylander at C for a week or two.

Problem is, Nylander is pretty bad at center.

I'd almost have Spezza out there for the face-off and then take him off the ice as if it was a PK.

It's Babcock, so not much will change..

Johnsson-Matthews-Nylander
Moore-Spezza-Marner

Hard to say. So far Nylander was in on 2 of Matthews 7 goals.

id think the C depth would be

Matthews
Kerfoot
Gauthier
Spezza

Spezza not going to be very good there imo
