The problem with drafting 18 year olds. Move the draft up to 19 and it will benefit everyone. Could clear up the AHL rule were younger players can't go and gives Jr teams a guarentee of having the 19 year olds in the line up. - SaskHawkFan
So logical a solution... they’ll never implement it. |

Lets be clear about what worked:
1. Crow being dialed in and not allowing any junk goals
2. The third line eating up Edmonton's first (which was great to watch and reminiscent of the Bolland, Havlat, Ladd line only faster)
The Hawks are the only team McDavid hasn't run rampant on this year and a lot of that has to do with the lads on the third line and JC deciding he was going to coach and match lines in a strategic fashion.
Keith also looked like he wanted to play that game which is always helpful. Maybe keep him with Murphy.
Anyway, the Jackets are one of those teams you'd think they should beat but they do have a fair amount of talent and a good enough top 4 on the blue line.
Someone (not me) should track how many draws Toews doesn't take when on the ice. There were a few he deferred to someone else the last game when he didn't get tossed. Haven't seen that unless he was carrying some kind of injury. - fattybeef
Spot on regarding Keith. I noticed the same thing for most of that game.
He looked against McDavid last year too.

If Kakko and Hughes are this bad can you imagine how bad Dach will be. - DarthKane

The Hawks played Edmonton the "right way" (another nod to Coach Q). |

Why do I get the feeling that there is a clause that will allow the Hawks to "loan" Dach for this tourney.
Another couple of competitive games in for him without eating into his 9 game trial. - Rota's Rooter
Funny you mention this because this was my same thought as well but not exactly in the same way. Dach can play in Rockford's game on Oct. 25th and then needs to be brought up to CHI or sent back to the Juniors. Coincidentally the Hawks have EXACTLY 9 games between then and the Canada vs. Russia Series that starts November 13th that he's been named to.
My question is, do they give him the nine game tryout and then "assign" him to the Juniors to play in that and then make the decision as to where he's going to play the rest of the year?
Just a thought

Maybe. But there is no harm seeing him in a few games against other NHLers. If he looks over matched he might be more motivated when he is sent back to juniors. If he never got a chance to play in the NHL he might go down there thinking he was ready to play in the NHL, has nothing to work on and that he was slighted and is wasting his time back in juniors.

Is this lop-sided scheduling worse than ever???
Hawks and NYR 4 games played. Most other teams 7-8 games played. Jets have played 9!!!!
Crazy difference. I know I am sick of 4-5 days between Hawk games. C'mon. Lace em up and let's win a few games guys!!!! |

Ya don't like that .Have not be onboard with a lot of J.C. moves so far in this incredibly stupid schedule . |

Im good with that, why not since they are both starters in the league |

Common now, let him determine where he's going to go. Comes up struggles then okay, but if he plays in NHL and is productive over 200 feet and let's say the 3rd line doesn't skip a beat with him centering it our team just got harder to play against |
|

If they can play with the same intensity as they did vs the Oil they are going to win their fair share of games in this league. I hope JC's message gets through to the players.
Btw those sucky Oilers won again last night, not even close

Nope. I think we should pre-suppose these decisions without the benefit of direct observation or evidence. |

Need 2 goaltenders who are sharp going into a 6 game in 9 night stretch.
Unlike many teams, the Hawks have 2 #1's. Lehner needs to play, he's got 1 game in like about 2-1/2 weeks. Not enough. |

Well we did not play Boqvist and his time back in Jr. seems to have help him . I think the prospect tourney and the time in the A is pretty good lock at what we have . Sure let him play a few games with the big boy's , and he get's rocked again and lose more confidence because we were all curious .Seems like a waste ,let him go down play in WJC and other big games their get bigger and stronger come back next year, what the hurry |

Though my preference has been to let him play at Center with Saad and Kubalik that line has played so well I wouldn't touch it right now. I'd consider playing him with Cat and Toews on the top line to give him a chance to acclimate to the NHL for a few games. Then maybe try him at Center for a few. They've got options should they decide to keep him around.
I think it's pretty obvious at this point they're gonna give him a shot with the team before they send him down |
