Was Marchand a 200 foot player at the same stage in his career? Not being snarky either, I honestly don't know so I am asking.
That being said if TK delivers the offensive output of Marchand without the 2 way player part I am okay with that. I know that differs from the desire that every player has to be a 200 foot player but I just dont think that is the only way to build a winner. - opeth_pa
No he was not, since Marchand was just breaking into the NHL at 22. He started his professional career in the AHL. His offensive game really broke through at age 27 when he eclipsed the 30-goal barrier for the first time. I believe his defensive game was better polished at that same time, but someone who follows Boston more might know exactly.
For me, I don’t think he is the right comparable to TK. Needless to say, I believe TK has a higher ceiling both offensively and defensively than we have seen. |

No, Marchand was mostly seen as a speedy pest. They were all surprised when he started putting up some points when he got into the lineup. His jump to elite 200-ft monster was out of left field -- nobody saw it coming.
And btw, lot of scouts actually raved about TK's two-way game coming out of junior. So book's not closed on him developing that further.
Marchand's puck-hunt is basically second to none, but TK's of a similar vein. |

Re: TK
I saw this earlier, and I’m not sure if this is how the conversation started, but for anyone who missed it—here.

I had to check that 2017-2019 5V5 goals stat that Whitney threw out there...
TK is 21st in the league in 5V5 goals, ahead of 2real's boy Laine, Marchand, Stamkos, Seguin, Boeser, Panarin and Stone. Within spitting distance of Draisaitl.
I guess he is a "sniper" after all. |

After thinking on all this...I think goal-scorer might be the better term. I’m not sure if people mean pure goal-scorer when they say sniper. Some of the league leaders in goals are all-around playmakers with more assists than goals.

No it's not the only way but if given a choice I'll take the 200 foot player.

Marchand had a 28 goal 55 point season at age 23. He was receiving Selke consideration at the same age. |

Marchand started out as an agitating checking forward and worked his way up in the lineup. So, yes, he had two-way game. |

In order to make a fair comparison by age, we will need to wait until 2021 to see how TK compares both defensively and offensively to Marchand’s 2-way 55 point season. |

I would take tk on this team over most for taking a shot from anywhere....getting it on net....and with some force. He’s a lot of bang for your buck for mostly second line minutes. I enjoy when he has the puck he makes things happen. How often are we yelling at him for missing the net.....not nearly as much as ghost. Giroux will get dialed in. I can’t think of the last time he started a season hot |

I'm really expecting Konceny to hit around the 25 goal 50+ point mark this season. You never know but I just don't see Konecny becoming the two way player that Marchand has become. I'll settle a strong offensive player who is responsible and manages the puck. |

If he keeps this up, he'll be in the squad soon. Glad to see frost producing. I think he'll need a while in the a. Next year maybe he'll be on the squad.
