It is amazing that leafs have been around so long but never had any good players. I mean I think vegas line up is better then that. It is just. Embarrassing!!!!

Any of the 80's teams that won the cup had a better singular year line-up than the all-time Leafs team!!! hahhaahah. The Isles, the Oilers, the Flames. Maybe only the
'86 Habs team would have trouble with that team! Brutal!

I was going to suggest Dion Phaneuf as a joke

For a team that's been around 100 years, pretty underwhelming roster

Wendel Clark in for Max Bently.

Also, I haven't looked into who I think SHOULD be the 6th defenceman...but there is a 0% chance that Phaneuf is the 6th best Leafs defenceman of all-time. Hell, even as a CURRENT Leafs defenceman, Rielly is better.

The marketing machine with Matthews is nuts. He's a very good player, but to include him over Wendell Clark, Damphousse, MacDonald, Viave, etc. on an all-time Leafs roster??? That's crazy. At this stage of Matthews career, I'd probably put Lindros ahead of him too (given the "has ever worn the jersey" criteria of this team selection).

Also, if you're going to include young, still unproven players, Marner is better than Matthews.

I think maybe this whole thing started with Leafs fans comparing Matthews to McDavid and now it's just this silly, competitive, over-appreciation for Matthews. Marner is more valuable to the team and "so far" the superior player.

The pressure on Matthews is also unfair to him.

I have yet to see a Leafs fan on here compare Matthews to McDavid. A lot of non-Leafs fans throw this around like it's the gospel. McDavid is in a league of his own. Matthews is the best even strength goal scorer in the league since he came in.

Marner is not more valuable than Matthews. Franchise centre vs star winger.

3 Leaf 50 goal scorers in their history and not one makes your all time team? sad really. Rick Vaive scoring 50 three times himself. Not to mention Mike Palmateer. Seems like a Flyers fan.........................................
I guess AngryWhiteMale really likes Vaive as on 2 lines lol

People still wear #17 Clark jerseys to games in Toronto.

It'd also like to point out that Larry Murphy played 2 seasons in Toronto.

I'm all or honoring the past, but half of these guys played nearly 100 years ago. Granted, the list of Leaf greats since then is pretty thin. But still...

Also, IF your'e going to include Dion Phaneuf, (which is hilarious by the way) then where is Morgan Rielly? Overall Rielly has been the better player. Just because Dion wore the 'C' shouldn't mean he's given the edge.

Is this a joke? Matthews scored 40 goals as a rookie and is doing stuff none of those players did as a Leaf. Matthews already in just 3 years has as many 30 goal seasons as Clark did as a Leaf. You're talking about media machine, so about applying that to Clark?

Maybe if Matthews got 6 minutes more a game like Draisaitl does he's score more?

Matthews numbers are just phenomenal given his usage.

Phaneuf? Really? Tomas Kaberle would have been a much better pick. Heck, Brian Glennie, Brian McCabe, Jaimie MacCoun, and about a dozen others have made a greater impact than Phaneuf just in the last 50 years. I rank Phaneuf about equal to Jim Benning.
Other than that - How do you have an all-time team without Wendel Clark?!
Insane!!

- doktordave

Dave ellett would have been better than phaneuf. So would dmitri yuskevitch.

In fairness phaneuf had 2 pretty good years with the leafs. Then he went to hell.

So would morgan rielly be a better pick. He took over top line duties before phaneuf was dumped, and has more good years in a leafs uni than phaneuf. And better top years too.
For that matter, jake Gardiner had jumped phaneuf in the deoth chart when he was here.

Its more than a half dozen. There are probably 20 to 30 better choices.

Either ek is trolling or just stupid.

In my opinion Dion Phaneuf should be instantly removed and replaced by Tomas Kaberle. Karberle is the best Leaf defensemen from 1990 to 2010. Phaneuf should not be considered with the before mentioned Karberle or Jamie Macoun.

Don't understand.

As of this morning Tankathon has the Leafs penciled in at 15th for the draft lottery draw. They are not playing at the pace that gets them into the playoffs and somebody wants to talk about the "best of all time" Leafs.

Perhaps it is a useful exercise. We might not notice the guys with their hair on fire.
