Peter Tessier: Jets bet Oilers in scoreless but exciting game. Jets beat Oilers in scoreless game but one that was rather entertaining.

Was working on this post before the new blog got posted....
Let's give Chevy some credit for something.....how many former Jets (prior to this season) have gone elsewhere via trade or other route, and become valued NHL players ?
Kane, Hainsey, Armia. Frolik, Stastny come to mind.

Can't include Trouba, Tanev, Myers, Chiarot, Hayes, yet....too early.

I hope the Jets keep Heinola as he more he plays the better he gets unlike Bitetto and Kulikov who seem to continue to make the same mistakes over and over again. He is even better than Dahlstrom.

While I did predict pre-season that Laine would have a much better year, I now think that we may have seen enough of his commitment to being a much better hockey player during the summer and the subsequent results that I think it would be in the Chevy's best interest to get a long-term extension to that bridge deal done as soon as possible . A long term at say $9 -10 MM AAV might be money well spent if Laine's current trajectory is any indication of how good he might be after the next two years.

I also think that Chevy might be wise to lock up Roslovic. He is the other Jet that seems leaps and bounds better than last year.

Wheeler was a tire fire with the puck on his stick last night. For all the flubs with the puck he still didn't hurt the team - speaks to sound positioning, skating and effort. He will be fine.

Laine was good again, the shootout shot was brilliant. He made timely big plays last night including a beautiful assist on the non-goal (sheifle offside drawn by Wheeler), had a few hits, some emotion spilling out and a few good shots/attempts.

Roslovic, Connor and Ehlers were key in the 200ft game, maybe i'm taking Sheifele for granted by not including him.

Pionk is earning his money, Heinola is good but not so good that finishing the year with the Moose is unnecessary. The defense played a good game.

Lowry looked good in all zones, did his job.

Way to early to be thinking Laine is now worth 9-10 million. The guy put up 10 points in 5 games and 2 in the next 5.

And last I checked he scored 3 goals in the first 10 games that's just over a 24 goal pace for the year.

I think we will see him back working out with the team in less than two weeks.

I wonder how long it will take the “fans” who were trashing him and saying the Jets were better off without him, to jump back on the Buff Band Wagon.

Well Mr. Ate Me, we aren't taking anymore dumb penalties anymore. We are the least penalized team in the league. When Buff gets back that will change and with the atrocious penalty kill we have this season, it may not turn out too good!

I would rather have Logan Stanley over Bitteto. At least that way he would get some good development!

I'll in the camp that while I don't admire the particular way that Chevy seemed to be blindsided just before pre-season , a healthy Buff is a very valuable addition to the lineup.

The moose provides better development for Stanley than the Jets are able to at this time.

Maybe not "better off" without him. But there is no future with him. What's he coming back for? To play out the rest of the year and retire? Great for the jets they can shop him at the deadline and get a 1st for him.

I would rather see Stanley make the same mistakes that Bitetto is making. He cannot be any worse.

This is where the comparisons to Rick Nash can be drawn. Laine is on a similar career trajectory to Nash and there is nothing wrong with that!

All very possible. Then if traded at the deadline, he could threatened to not report to the new team if it doesn't feel right. The guy has become a complete wild card.

Stanley didn't play on Saturday with the Moose and neither did Niku. Niku is an injury but I didn't hear what was up with Stanley.

Speaking of the Moose, went to the game on Saturday night and Logan Shaw is hands down their best player. The Birdman made some good saves and he has a lot of movement in his style. But, its all about development and playing time to grow. As it stands, the Jets are one injury away from the Birdman backup.

Chebisov is very good skater, he moves around quite well....Luotto, didn't notice him much. I thought he had a good camp but almost invisible on Sat.

Nogier I thought looks like a very serviceable Dman and he looks like he is very comfortable playing at the AHL level. Suess was noticeable but the Moose looked completely discombobulated on Saturday. A little bit of meh......

Probably has something to do with a Yahoo employee conducting a shady add/drop using Buff's DTD status to park him, make their move and then return Buff to the "Suspended" status i.e. Stash Buff on DTD to open a roster spot, go grab a player or two like Josh Anderson who still on the IR but returning soon, park Anderson and then return Buff to his "suspended" status.

ZERO CHANCE Yahoo knows something about Buff's status, especially when nobody else does and nothing has been announced.

It wouldn't surprise me that he would come back and decide a month later that he's had enough and retires anyway.

Trading Buff at the deadline for a first rounder in a super strong draft would ease the pain of not making the playoffs if it plays out that way.

The Jets should reward players on the Moose that are having a good start to thr season instead of recycling the old, useless retreads they signed for what was supposed to be depth on the Moose not the Jets.
