It is a stupid strategy by Babcock. He is basically saying, "we cant trust Hutch at all, so we will just throw him to the wolves." If you can't trust your backup to play some games, then maybe you need to get one that you can? Or, maybe the team needs to play better in front of him?"
The win is Boston is more important. Sit Freddy tonight, let Johnsson rest tonight (blocked shot), bring in some call ups (Gravil?) to take up some minutes so everyone is a little fresher for tomorrow... - Hockey_Reverend
Exactly.
Especially if it's Columbus and San Jose with their back-up on Friday. If the 1st game is a soft opponent, which a lot of them have been so far, put the back-up in and you will still get the W and increase your odds of getting the W (or at least a point) against the divisional rival too.

You can also say Babcock trusts hutch enough to put him in against Boston.
But that also is just making stuff up I have no idea about.
its probably more about Anderson and controlling his workload.

well I guess you have it all figured out.
cause you know...Hutchinson has proven a ton in the NHL that's what got him the job right? - Lucas.Neilson
Think about it. Columbus' GM is a Finnish wonder scout. You really think he's going to trade a 25 year old Finnish goalie? He obviously has faith in the guy to let Bob walk. And he obviously also knows that if he doesn't pan out, he still needs him as a cheap filler until his other prospects pan out, who currently, have worse numbers than Korpisalo. Remember when the Leafs got Andersen? Anaheim had two guys that were ready for prime time and then and only then did they move Andersen because Gibson was better and cheaper.
Hutchinson has also proven very little which is why he's a bad back-up for the Leafs right now. You really want to spend assets to make the same mistake twice?
Leafs need like a Ryan Miller from 5-6 years ago type. A solid veteran who can play 30 games but knows he can't be a starter anymore but still perform like one on light duty.
Or Casey DeSmith from Pittsburgh who proved he could play well for 30ish games behind a team that doesn't really care about playing defense.

or do both - senstroll
Or use Andersen in important games and actually get home ice for the playoffs.
Not every back-to-back is against teams like Boston and Montreal. But when they are, (frank)ing play the guy and get the points in important games.
Then later on in the season, when you see a soft game like Detroit or Ottawa or Minnesota or whomever else is a poop team, you sit Andersen.
By the end of the season, Andersen will still be at 55 games and the Leafs will still have collected important points in important games from earlier in the season.

1. hutch and korpisalo have like 10 games played +- than eachother. Korpisalo is younger.
2. Miller is injured half the season and is a shell of his former self, he sucks.
3. casey desmith? the girlfriend beater who is going to cost the leafs more in prospects/picks than they will want to give up
and Columbus didn't let bobrovsky walk - he left, just like panarin.

for the record - I would have sat Andersen tonight if I was babs.
they must be securing tonight's 2 points and hope to battle for some tomorrow

They both haven't proven poop and if Korpisalo has potential, Columbus isn't moving him any time soon without a proven replacement, which they don't have.
Didn't say literally Miller of today. I said a Miller from 5-6 years ago type. There's a difference.
5 years ago, hasn't done anything since, people deserve a 2nd chance. Otherwise Matthews will forever be the drunken teenager with his pants down. People make mistakes. It's okay to give them a 2nd chance.
Columbus didn't give them the money / term they wanted so they walked. That's what walking means; they left for nothing.
