Last time I checked he’s playing on the 2nd line right now no ? Is Mojo the #1 Center ? I also said it’s a lot of money to give to a guy with a career high of 63 points over 8 seasons.
You proceeded to say that goals are worth 2x more then assists. I don’t know if you watched the game tonight but I saw a few pretty primary and secondary assists tonight. Points are points anyway you slice it. - Swedish_Jesus
Yeah I never said they’re worth “2x more”.
What I’ve repeatedly said, is 5 on 5 goals are the most important asset you can have as a forward, and Skinner is elite at it.
And if you really think a PP secondary assist is the same thing, whatever |

He has 6 goals while primarily playing with an elite beer league forward and a converted winger is his center |

Dude come on, Have you not seen what Dahlin does with some of those passes?????
He literally floated backwards one game and ghosted a pass across to Jack.
yes their are a ton of easy touch passes that get One-timed but getting the goalie to bite or going no look, or behind his back are things RISTO Can't do - MEBSabresFAN
Of course.
Dahlin having 10 points in 10 games doesn’t mean he’s been great. It means he’s been good on the PP.
Just like Ristolainen being a “40 point D man!!” Doesn’t make him a good player |

It sure seems like people here are happier when the Sabres lose, cuz they get to say “I told you so”, in reference to their personal whipping boy. Too bad for them there’s only been one regulation loss. Tough season so far. - PrinceChill

I believe the posting group would be much happier to pick out the problems than relish in the

Tomorrow may be a dumpster fire but today is awesome.
Remember when the Sabres gave up the two goal leads? What happened tonight? Oh, yeah, they came back but.......... |

You are saying stats are taken out of context, then deliberately take them out of context sarcastically, then say see? Stats can be taken out of context!
You built a strawman and then knocked him down so you could bash stats. Except you deliberately read the stats wrong so you could then stay say stats are read wrong. You had an argument with yourself, and boy did you win it! - matty12345

I agree with the premise but RISTO is good at the Top of the Pt on the PP
I would say Top 20 in the league.
But we have Rasmus Dahlin and from what I've seen, He's Top 10 at Top of Pt PP |

Sure and the Eichel poop fest was alive and well for half the game until he turned it on and I didn’t hear a single excuse about how poor Reinhart was playing and how they are essentially playing without a LW at even strength. |

Ah, so last year, on the L1, he was top line caliber?
Do you consider Patrick Kane a 2nd liner? He’s played behind Toews for years |

Reinhart is good though.
Trust me, I would make plenty of excuses for Eichel if this was 2017-18 when he played with Girgensons and Pominville. In fact, I did!
But Skinner doesn't need anyone to make excuses for him because he's scoring, and Sobotka is a worse player than Girgensons.
Mojo is the man, though, I'll give you that |

Stats. Small sample size. Analytics. Power play points. Secondary assists.
To hell with all the reasons to be upset with this team. I’m very excited to go to the game Thursday night. |

I like the Skinner signing. But if someone doesn't like it because it's 8 years long, I hardly think you're going to change their mind by pointing out Skinner isn't old yet after 10 games.
Okposo had a pretty good first half a year too. That signing was looking great through most of his first year. |

Okposo was never elite at anything, ever, except for being in the upper echelon of elite bigness
Skinner is an elite 5-on-5 scorer and an elite skater |

So we are comparing Skinner to one of the few wingers in the league that can drive his own line now ? Quite possibly the best U.S born hockey player ever ? One who had what 108 points last year ?
Look at the list of players that scored 35+ goals last year, apart from Cam Atkinson (who makes less than $6M) how many of those players finished with 80 or less points ? How many others finished with the 63 points Skinner had ?
If Skinner is going to be worth $9M he better damn score 40 goals cause he does not have the playmaking ability of a “super star”. |

So we have established that we have two sets of pairs that work, until Olofsson gets acclimated and we either promote or acquire someone else to play 2RW.
Mojo is a good hockey player, it’s the staying healthy part that he’s had difficulty with. They have good chemistry and it’s worked out very well for 10 games and I hope it continues. |

Now if Skinner does what he’s done through 10 games for another 584 games I’ll gladly eat my humble pie.
If we are sitting here 5 years from now with a cup contender and so help me Jesus we can’t add a piece to the core because we have another boat anchor contract on our hands I’ll lose my mind. |

No argument. Skinner is the second best 5v5 scorer in the league to Matthews. He's proven in Carolina and now here he produces irrelevant if his linemates.
He draws penalties, is a great forechecker, and in two years guys like him will be making 11 or 12 mil.
I love the signing. I'm just saying, the argument won't be settled for at least 6-7 years. |

If Mitts starts looking like a 2C, that could change things too.
Not sure Olofsson has gotten his best shot off a single time so far at 5v5. At some point you have to wonder if he's really a top 6 player.

Skinner is given the most ice time of any LW’er= Top line LW
I’m not the one who said he’s a 2nd liner because he’s playing with Johansson.
He’s averaged 18:20 min a night. That’s a top liner |

See, now teams generally get in trouble for paying players money for past performance.
It’s the next 8 years I’m worried about not the past 4. Like I said, I’ll gladly eat my humble pie if he continues this pace and earns the contract over the course of the next 8 years. I don’t know how it’s possible to take an L after 10 games though. |

Oh god STFU. I said it wasn’t impressive to pass the puck 7 feet to the right to Eichel
Just like it’s not impressive when Dahlin does it.
It’s “fine” when either do it. However it doesn’t come close to making them good - sbroads24
Yeah, no. So how is Dahlin so good, but Risto flat sucks then? He's no better than Risto in the D-zone yet, and Risto has more EV points than Dahlin, Dahlin's taken more bad penalties too, Dahlin's a better skater and passer, great. They give out the award for the best defenseman to the best offensive defenseman. Brent Burns has no business winning an award for defense unless it's for offense. |

Yeah, he’s absolutely, undoubtedly, irrefutably better and has been since he was 18. A rough 5 games doesn’t change it.
Being able to pass or skate the puck out of the zone instead of whipping around the boards to no one or icing it is part of D zone play, and Dahlin is clearly better |

No but 62 points we can argue is 2nd line player production though no ? Perhaps low end 1st line ?
I’m still waiting to see a list of players that scored 35 + goals last year that finished with under 80 points, never mind the 63 points Skinner finished with.

How did I deliberately read the stats wrong? I left a few out that didn't fit my narrative, sure, but so does literally everyone who tries to use the stats. xGF% and CF% Rel aren't bedrock stats? Risto was also on the ice for more scoring chances for than against.
Bottomline is Risto was far from a nightmare tonight. Dahlin had one of the worst games for a D-man this year if you look at the stats, but he was solid tonight. The stats and actual play don't even come close to matching up. People that think 10 games means (frank)-all are the ones appealing to authority, hard. |
