No team will claim Ericsson. Still nice to see him waived. |

Biega was sent down,
so he shouldn't be on Ken Kal's "roster". |

We won't see Bold Yzerman until the summer. Hope Svech actually gets to play this time. - gergeswillems

Ericsson on waivers. - Feds91Stammer
Ok, after trying to dig through different articles and listening to buzzcast, I’m still not sure what’s really going on. We waived E AND sent Biega down. Erne is out hurt. This could just be bookkeeping. There isn’t really a danger of Ericsson being picked up so he can be assigned to GR. That would, technically, increase his trade value. I’m just not sure anyone is looking for him right now. Speculation is going from “Ericsson is hurt and could possibly be bought out” to trade rumors to ? I think we’ll just have to sit tight until someone breaks news on this |

Thanks! When it really hit me the other night was watching vs NYR. There always seems to be a forward fresh on the attack if it’s in transition. Sidney Crosby does a masterful job of this for Pitt in the opposite way. Once Pens get to the zone he does a quick change and is last man in from the point.
What really surprised me was seeing Myers as part of the attack down low. He seems to be skating well on the attack. Interesting to watch |

Buyout Windows are over. Ericsson is an impending UFA. No need to buy him out. Just wait for his contract to expire. Even if Yzerman retained 50% I don't think any team would have any interest in trading for him. He'd still be a 2 million dollar Pylon. |

The only thing i can think is that if the Wings retain 50, another team could bury 1 mil in minors to start and only have to take on 1 mil to do a deal. Even that it’s a stretch to imagine. This is probably all bookkeeping stuff |

No, it's not, they have plenty of cap space.
It's the roster spots that are at premium now.
Ericsson doesn't fit anywhere

Also worth noting that a player doesn't have to be sent down immediately after clearing waivers -- it just starts a clock where he can be freely sent down without having to clear waivers again unless / until 30 days pass or he plays in 10 games.
It honestly wouldn't surprise me if they didn't send him down right away (or at all) and we see him in some games for Detroit in the near future. Then depending on how it goes he either earns back his spot, or he doesn't -- and then the team could send him down immediately without having to waste another day of waiting for him to clear again.
And yes, sending him down would almost certainly not be a cap move. The Wings still have $2+ million in space and Franzen and Zetterberg aren't even technically on LTIR yet -- meaning the Wings could still add another ~$12 million worth of cap hits to the roster if they wanted to, even with Ericsson on the roster.
EDIT/ADDITION: For the record, I am 100% fine with Ericsson being sent down to the minors immediately and permanently, starting tomorrow. But I wouldn't necessarily count on that being what actually happens. We'll know more soon.
EDIT #2: I need to correct my comment about Zetterberg and Franzen not technically being on LTIR. They are. However the Wings aren't currently using any of the relief pool and have actually reduced the payroll on the roster since placing them on LTIR, hence the roughly $12 million in effective cap space. |

My guess is he’s assigned to GR but not required to report. |

Is the roster limit still 25? They put Erne on IR and sent Biega down as well. Just not used to this amount of “goings on” |

Technically these were the swaps:
1. Biega down, Svechnikov up
2. Erne placed on IR, Ericsson activated
If Ericsson clears waivers (which he obviously will), they can leave him on the active roster, or they can send him down and recall somebody else. |

Ericsson on waivers. - Feds91Stammer
For what it’s worth, sports net added that their AP source is remaining anonymous and that the Wings haven’t officially announced the move (?). I saw Mlive report so that doesn’t make sense. Still not much in the way of info here.
