I don't know, I think Hajek has been better than Fox, and the fact Skjei isn't mentioned as being a problem on defense, but he goes after the low hanging fruit in Staal, come on. - mdw7413
Couldn't open that link, but Shady Brjei has to be the next candidate to sit on the back end. A couple nice plays last night, but overall just a horrendous start to the season. Hajek has been better of late and my only problem with Foxy is that he can't EVER get a shot through to the net! |

Quinn was my biggest question mark for this squad in the summer and I said so...
Jury is still way out on him. This is a tough coaching job for anybody... even in the best of times. He doesn't have enough good will built up with the fan base and if these next few games go awry ... You can just see the dreaded vote of confidence coming.

I mean, you can't really blame him. Objectively speaking, the Rangers are a one-line team. Really a 2/3-of-a-line team. Kreider is off to a bad start, Kakko is a rookie that hasn't had it click yet (which is fine, he's still most likely going to be a higher-end player eventually) and the rest of the forwards are unspectacular, at best.
Kinda hard to pick out just Quinn. This is not Ranger teams of the past where the coach has had a bevy of marquis NHL players at his disposal. Landing the big UFA or not, they're still a rebuilding team and it's hard to pin that solely on the coach. |

Yeah. Fox turns the puck over a decent amount too. Learning curve, I'm sure he will get better at it, but yeah his shot never seems to get to the goalie. |

Yup why I think he deserves a bit of leeway. Think about the changes since he has been head coach. Do I like all his decisions, no, but what fan loves all their coaches decisions. |

The game plan for opposing teams probably solely exists around one principle. "Put our best defensive line/d-pairing out there against Panarin/Zibanejad" |

Man, just looking at EV TOI stats...the 3rd highest forward behind Panarin/Zibanejad are averaging 2.5/3 minutes less time at EV than those two
Third/fourth most EV TOI from the Rangers are Buch/Kreider who've rolled with that line. Strome is averaging almost 5 minutes less at EV than the big boys |

Biggest issue with Quinn is he gives vets longer leashes. We know they are rebuilding and rather watch the young kids struggle and lose then the old vets we know suck |

Probably a good idea to split those two up, but it still presents the same problem. No 2nd line center. I think they were really hoping Chytil would have been the guy and now they are all sorts of (frank)ed.
Hayes contract was absurd and no way would I have been cool with the Rangers giving him that, but man they would be in a better place if Hayes was here. |

Every coach does that. Trotz does it nightly and he's one of the best coaches to ever work in the NHL. I readily admit that it's frustrating at times, but putting kids in situations where they get embarrassed nightly isn't the best thing for their development either. |

You guys are right on all these points. And I have been and still am in Quinn's corner. But, my problem over the last 5 games is that he seems to be making decisions based on getting today's W instead of progressing through the rest of the rebuild.
I get that you can't throw away games in the NHL, but you can try to live and die with your young talent rather than make them watch from the bench and create a resentful culture. |

They'll figure that out, that I'm sure of. Not many teams can throw their weight around more than the Rangers, in terms of signings and roster moves.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them in on RNH at some point. Or trying to add at forward by taking advantage of the Leafs cap situation. |

For sure, but there has to be a compromise where they are still out there trying to learn from their mistakes.
The approach going into the season was pretty much that we have what we have and we'll make it work the best we can. Well, trying to ride 2 horses and leaving all the rest to feel they are interchangeable, fringe elements that will be penalized for every mistake doesn't seem to jive with that. |

Yeah, I kind of agree. I think the biggest issue for him is the 2c. I mean you have to get a core growing together, but how do you do it with no 2c. Honestly you could mix and match wingers all day long but you cant grow a core without that 2nd center |

I agree with Jim that for the 1st time in 4 years RNH should be off the market. The Oilers have some sort of identity and cohesion for virtually the first time this millennia, why (frank) with that? |

I'm not going to pretend like I've watched every Ranger game and can really contribute any useful analysis here. I fully believe you guys, I just know that fans always want to see the younger guys play and it's not a Rangers/Quinn-centric anomaly. Isles fans are going through it with Wahlstrom right now. He's looked really great and keeps getting stuck with Brassard on the 3rd line while Tom Poonspackle rides shotgun on the top line with Barzal. |

Maybe, but he'll be a UFA summer after next. I was thinking of "in on him" as in signing him. Not necessarily trading for him.
At 28 he'll be pretty sought after and, if the Rangers haven't filled the hole at 2C yet, I could see them making a push for him. Not saying it's set in stone or anything, but he'll be reasonably priced compared to other top UFA's and could potentially fill a need. |
