iv seen the team coached by babcock for 4 years. I have not seen a new coach yet. so all I would have to go off is an interview (just like a GM)
- senstroll

so you basically stop some guys on the street, and then one that convinces you in an interview will be the next GM?
that's what you are basing the decision on?

having a tough guy does not stop teams from taking liberties.
we have 5000 examples of this.

It does make fans feel better thinking they have someone on the team who Stops those things.

- senstroll

Depends on the definition of tough guy. Every team needs a player or two that hit like a truck, scary to play against and stick up for there team mates. A player were the other team has to always be aware of when he is on the ice.
This one little thing gets the other team running around and throws them off there game plan. Is it just me or does every game look like a repeat over and over- 1. Opposition sticks to there game plan knowing the leafs have no push back- 2. Target, slam, slash, cross check the leafs stars cuz they know nothing will happen in return. 3.Leafs look lost and don't know what to do when this exact thing gets done to them.
To be honest, it doesn't have to be a knuckle chucker, that would be an added bonus for me thou as an entertainment factor.

Aside from it being a popular opinion to have for Leafs fans, what exactly has Ceci done as a Leaf to be so "cringy"? I haven't seen it. He's been "fine". Nothing spectacular at either end - just kind of steady and boring, which is welcome on this team.
- Deeps27

He's been average. Not 4.5 million worth average....but average.
Its only 1 year, no big deal and it opened up 4.5 m per over the next 5 seasons. He did what he had to do.

You are right that we don't need a fighter.. We just need players that will stick up for their teammates..

Yah, you're right...

Kevin Dineen is the head coach of the San Diego Gulls in the AHL, he's not a basketball player..

It does cut down on liberties taking...but no it doesnt eliminate them all.
However, the leafs dont need a tough guy....just anyone with a spine or heart to even just mouth "hey didnt like that hit". Clean hit or not.
Most dont want a fighter.....but it would be nice for someone to stand up for someone once in a while. Even with a soft crosscheck....any emotion.

Frikin Petry braced himself, looked like he was assuming some one was going to come at him.. Instead Matthews just skates by and probably apologized to Petry for almost hitting him

Gotta say, that was probably the biggest hit Petry has delivered since he joined the Habs.

Sidenote: Petry is pretty god damn good these days.

This is my least favorite of the Dubas things

July 4th 2019: Signs Cody Ceci to a one-year, $4.5 million Contract.

- senstroll

He had to do that. Ceci was an RFA and was not going to play for us this year without a contract and that was the min number he could pay. I don't see a downside to giving a young D man that at one time was highly touted, a chance on a contract year.

He's always been good, except for when he was on the Oilers, because everyone on that team sucked at that time..

But looking at the replay, it seems like Petry was expecting someone to come at him..

Yeah well most "big hits", even clean one, seem to cause some form of retaliation these days. So yeah, if I was him, I'd expect it too.

Somehow, it didn't happen that time.

Josh Anderson?

Even if you don't think so, I really like Josh Anderson.. I mean, it's not like the feelings I have for William Nylander but, you know, close.

you say you've seen enough of Babcock after 4 years to say he should be canned.
you don't watch any other hockey so you could have an idea who you'd like as a next head coach?
seems strange you can judge babcock as an outsider, but for the new coaches, you need all kind of inside information.
