Seabrook might get pissed off and demand a trade, he would find out soon enough that nobody would want that contract. Yes, Brent, you are getting old at 34, and yes speed is a real problem in your game. Seabs can make Colliton look like the bad guy all he wants, but fact of the matter Colliton is doing what he should be doing. Not the biggest fan of JC, but I still have nothing wrong with scratching Seabs.

That would certainly explain the "for somebody" if they had already planted the seed.

I really, really hope he is traded so he can be remembered here as the fantastic player he has been, rather than the cap albatross his contract has become.

We were lucky to have him.

Agreed, sadly Seabs is in denial with his abilities. All athletes have a lot of pride, and sometimes do not see their skills eroding when everyone else around them can.

Hear, hear

And another reason that the NHL needs some different rules for players over a certain age and contract termination.

If Seabs were the 6/7 defenseman, making $1.5-$2M, everyone still loves him.

If a team wants Seabs, how much are you willing to eat if you are the Hawks in order to see that contract go away?

Retain $$?

There is little to no chance of a trade without the Hawks taking back an equally bad contract.

And I also don't believe that nobody in the organization has spoken to Seabrook. May be surprising to some, but this Coach apparently has some big time autonomy with playing personnel.

Whats next - Seabs on waivers?

Yeah, how's it going to be for Karlsson, Doughty and Josi even halfway through their deals? Ooof.

Well, if StanBo does something like this, he should be run out of town

You get the sense this is gonna end with something like Seabrook ($$$ retained), Ian Mitchell and a draft pick being sent to Vancouver for Loui Eriksson

It is sad when players are reduced to their contracts. That only looks at the business side, when it is so much more. Bickell, Sharp, and now Seabs. "He was a great player & did (insert awesome moment here) BUT he had to go." It's not important until the "but" of the sentence. Then it turns into look at what Blowman got in return, what an imbecile. No satisfaction on the bod until a new whipping boy arises.

lehner has seen 8 more shots and let in 7 less goals. .935 vs .888, Seabs is last in the team in both +/- and corsi fenwick,

seabs at 50% retained would mean he make 3.4 per year. still need to add pretty heavy to get him off the books.

what makes more sense is trading him after next July 1st when is only owed 16.5 and retain less. and increase the package.

Maybe, maybe not. His skills right now are hurting this team more than they are helping!! I will remember the good Seabs, and not the Seabs that has lost 2 steps. Tough to see, but fact of the matter, there are players that deserve to play more than Seabrook now.

Teams know they have Stan bent over the barrel, however the Hawks cannot stupidly just get rid of the contract like the Hawks did with Bickell by gift wrapping Teravainen to the Canes.

Nope. If it takes a 2nd Rd pick and close 50% I would consider it depending on what we have to take back in return.

If no one is willing to make a deal that Stan doesn't get bent over for then ride it out. As much as Seabrook deserves better than that, it's not worth it to have to retain half his salary, give up a legit top prospect, AND a draft pick. At least if you continue to sit him maybe he considers just retiring

The most they could save would be about 2M dollars meaning you'd be paying Toews about 8.5M to play for another team

If benching Seabrook creates this huge dramatic wave, some claim, then the team is truly a collection of entitled pussies.

This is all pretty simple, I will give everyone 10 bucks for every foot race to a puck in the dzone 7 has won in the past 3 games. You give me 1 dollar for each he loses. Rewatch the game and let me know how much money you will be sending me.

It is not a matter of being good or bad, he simply can not keep up..

- TrueGrit

I just have to point out you were all OVER Q for benching the immortal Victor Stalberg back in 2013.....so your first paragraph in this post is quite amusing.
