A fool for stating a fact? You are the one that called him a generational goal scorer did you not. Why don't you look in the mirror before you go calling people names. - BWJumper
I agree with you BW, Laine is finally learning how to play the basics. Generational goal scorer he is not.
Looking more and more like Jimmy Carson. watching him play the other night, wow! He looks disinterested and for the most part is hardly noticeable on the ice.
It sucks as his trade value continues to diminish as the season goes on. Another example of poor asset management by the Jets. Seeing what Tkachuk is doing in Calgary really makes me sad. Wished we had drafted him over Laine. |

Rumors are stongly swirling that Spezza will be waived shortly. Could be a solid 4C with PP time...... - bikeguy99
I love Jason Spezza. Would love to have him on our team. I will order a Heritage Classic jersey with his name on the back. |

I like all those players listed. Doonskoi is pure speed and Tuch should be a perennial 25 goal scorer on the cheap. It's no secret that the second half of last season had Laine looking like a bum, but his contract is fair, and he is starting to show more promise every day. He did score 18 goals in a month...... As much as I hate his 2-way game, improvements are apparent and the guy can score from 30' out. Seems to be playing with some passion these days. But with little likely going on the LTIR, and appleton still out, I feel we need Laine back on the RW, and Raslovic at 2C. Lowry is an absolute bull, but his high end offensive talents are lacking for 2C role. - bikeguy99
On a good team, Lowry would be a fourth line center that plays about 10-12 minutes a game. |

agreed. he has a generational shot, but is not a generational goal scorer at this time. Still has a huge upside to his potential that will require continued professional level of effort to tap into.

Going to be very interesting now as to who the 2nd line C is. Could go:
Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler
Ehlers-Copp-Laine
Connor-Scheifele-Laine
Ehlers-Wheeler-Roslovic
Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler
Ehlers-Roslovic-Laine
My preference would be the last scenario. Give Jacko a three-five game audition (at least) at 2nd line C. See it is Luoto time!

My preference would be that last combo as well but it looks like it will be the speed line I talked about earlier in this thread of Ehlers-Wheeler- and Roslovic. It will be fun to watch that line. Also interesting that Gustaffsson is still around. I'm not sure that this was the big picture plan for him but it seems all these injuries are working in his favor.
Matthew Tkachuk.....have been saying that since mid last year . He would have been the better pick and a coveted 2nd line center for the Jets, plus some history with his father having been a Jet. All hindsight now though.
Some trivia for you. Most of us remember the Hawerchuk trade which was a sad day in Winnipeg at the time. We all remember getting Housley, Arneil , and Jeff Parker....but the real win from the trade was that we also got Buffalo's first-round pick ( 19th overall).......Keith Tkachuk. At the end of the day Buffalo got hosed even worse than the Kane trade. |

If you were reading Mike McIntyre's tweets, he tweeted that he had a typo in a previous tweet and it should have read no timeline for RETURN, not retirement.
Perforated eardrum and experiencing vertigo, and his head is bigger on one side than the other but says he is OK and in good spirits.
And agree, we all hope that he will be OK going forward.

Hint of Sarcasm? haha the guy is still a better option then Copp or Lowry if in an offensive role. I think he would better contribute to a 3rd scoring line more than those boys.
Connor Scheifs Wheeler
Ehlers Ras Laine
Perrault Spezza Appleton
Copp Lowry Borque
Gritty 4th shutdown, but the other 3 lines have alot of offensive upside. As it stands, Lowry and Copp combine for 30 games played, and 4 points. Spezza has them beat in 8 games with generally very low TOI. Laine on the off wing would love a Righty feeding him the pucks on the 2PP unit....... |

I literally could not disagree more with any of these individual takes/points/assessments, and find the overall conclusion to be both uninformed, and personally offensive |

Looks like Wheeler is moving to center with Ehlers and Roslovic. Scheifle will center Connor and Laine.

I didn't see the Sun article where it was suggested that there could be bleeding in the brain, so hopefully that is not the case. Apparently he is being released today according to the Sun but out of action indefinitely.

Well, its a patchwork sort of season it looks like...…….. I mean, with all this drama, Buff, Little being injured twice now and its only game 16, what's next?
Spezza salary is 700K. I guess why not? The ranks are getting thinner by the day...…. |

No Sarcasm, I used to be a HUGE Senators fan until Jets 2.0 returned. I already have a Spezza Senators Jersey.

Wonder what the chances are that the Jets claim Martin Marincin tomorrow? |

Hopefully 0. We’ve already crippled the Jets ability to develop players. While Marincin is clearly better than Kulikov/Bitetto/Dahlstrom/Sbisa, Maurice wouldn’t think so. All of them here just pushes Gawanke and Green, legitimate prospects, further out of the Moose lineup than they already have been. |

I highly doubt it. I believe Niku is now in good enough shape that Maurice should bring him up in relatively short order. Poolman also ready to play again. Therefore in another week or two, our D might look more like.....
Morrissey - Poolman
Niku - Pionk
Kulikov/ Beaulieu - Dahlstrom / Sbisa
..with the third pairing having lots of options depending on the type of team we are playing. The weakness is the Jets right side D in the first pairing. Poolman is definitely not a 1st pairing caliber defender. Possibly Niku could play on his offside with Morrissey and solve a lot of problems. Carolina also has RHD options available for the Jets once Chevy gets more clarity on cap space. |

Laine has got 14 goals in his last 74 games. That ties him with other generational goal scorers named Lars Eller, Andrew Shaw, Alex Tuch and Joonas Donskoi - BWJumper
and Wheeler has as many points on PP as future hall of famer Marko Dano |

nation,
you reminded me of a funny story, when we drafted Hawerchuck first overall, later in the draft the Jets wanted to draft one of his line mates from the OHL. As both were available the Jets had their choice, they took Arniel…… over Gilmour, ouch!!!!

I think your mistaken Ross. Arneil was a 1981 draft pick. Gilmour was 7th round in 1982. Lots of teams missed out on him early. I believe that was the year we drafted Kyte and Ellett in the earlier rounds.

Ya I could be, maybe I heard it wrong as he did play on hawerchuck’s line though in Dales last year when they won the Memorial Cup. The Jets did want one of his wingers and did draft Arniel (I think in 2nd round) so easily could have taken Gilmour as well the following year. Shocking they didn’t |

Heck, the mistakes Ferguson made back then were horrendous. Most Jets draft picks in the mid to late 80's were brutal. Even in the early 80's the only one Ferguson got right was Hawerchuk , but he was a no-brainer anyways. In 1979 we all remember the ridiculous pick of Jimmy Mann over the next pick which was Michel Goulet.....dohhh !. He liked the big tough guys. How about Babych over Coffey or Denis Savard in 1980 or Jim Kyte ahead of Dave Andreychuk in 1982. Ferguson was a horrible GM. He rarely ever took the great skaters with high hockey sense because he never had remotely any of those abilities in his pro-hockey career. |
