Honest question... do we have the depth to got and make moves?
reason I ask is the Pats have all the depth in the world and can afford to make that move. Year and years of dealing the last 4 picks in the 1st for multiple picks later - hubie
not much if you are looking for a top 6 guy.. we have d depth but nothing that is going to net you a top 6.. i think you would have to trade a D prospect and a 1st to a team tanking........ but we don't have the cap space for that, so then you have to trade a cap dump for pick or future considerations first. not sure anyone would take scandella or bogo from us at this point but it almost has to be one or both of them |

Trading the future to win now...no. We aren't close enough. But making good moves to improve the roster, I'd do that everyday. Is there a Miller type trade to make? A montour type trade? A Jokiharju trade? To get half our D core, Botts traded 3 picks, and two prospects.
Do Pekar, Ruotsoleinen, Pilutm and a couple picks get me two forwards? If so I'm in. - matty12345
i would say not any good ones unless you are going 1st or 2nd rounders with them. i can't see any of those prospects having much real value |

"Well you’re presumably trading Risto to get that RW, correct??"

Would you deal Ullmark?I think a guy like Asplund, and as much as id hate to do it Borgen because the caliber player i want thats the cost being the higher end guys. |

Maybe Botts just doesn’t want us to improve then?
All these scenarios available to him,
yet he still hasn’t made a move...
Can you explain that? |

I'm fully aware these trades take place closer to the TDL. There are some outliers like Vanek to the Isles.
My argument is that a 45-50 point RW is an improvement over Sobotka, and the Sabres have the necessary assets to make a move like that.
Do you disagree? |

People are terrified of losing here. I think it's been so bad so long, that when it goes good, everyone is holding their breath. Don't point out the stats are unsustainable, you'll jynx it! Don't switch the lines, which happens on a nightly basis around the league, because we don't actively suck, and we might again if we lose the magic of Sobotka! Don't make a trad eto make us better, because what could possibly be better than not being the worst team in the league! 9-2-2, don't change a thing, and don't breathe too loud
I get it. But anyone by now can get a good grip on this team. They've played good, they;re better than last year, they're not 9-4 good like their record, and they have obvious holes. So lets just get down to the business of improving the team, and aim a little higher than 'the team doesn't suck'. - matty12345
Yes let's improve the team, think everybody is for it, but how to go about it. People keep saying 13 games should be enough for Krueger to see what changes need to be made, well shouldn't we let him and his coaches decide what those changes should be, seems like he does no what he is doing |

we can't trade prospects and picks for a guy that will help in the top 6 though. We don't have the cap space to make a move like that.
In order to actually upgrade the NHL roster, we have to send an NHL roster player out at this point. |

If you're not using Risto as part of the trade, how are we bringing in a 45-50 point guy with one of our other roster players? Which roster player are you sending out that's going to even remotely net you that kind of player?
I get what you're saying, and I don't disagree that it would be a nice upgrade, but I don't think it's quite as simple as you're making it out to be when you factor in our cap situation. |

It shouldn't be a problem for a team rebuilding team to absorb Bogo's cap hit for the remainder of the season as long as it helps them secure the assets they actually want. |

How many times did i say yesterday that I’d love to get Ehlers?
But that doesn’t mean Winnipeg is willing to move him
At least not for the cost Botts would be willing to do the deal
Is another team out there willing to make a deal that would help us?
I think it’s fair to assume no at the moment
Otherwise, Botts would’ve done something
And if u recognize that a deal isn’t likely available now...
how are we putting a 50point guy in the lineup over Sobotka at the moment? |

way to actually have an idea.....
Could you be more vague?
I'm all for making an upgrade if I can. But everyone is beating this horse that Botterill has plenty of options to bring in that top 6 RW and then has 0 actual real ideas outside of "Picks, prospects, and players" to accomplish that task.
your idea in another post of Bogo may be something they could make happen, but moving a guy coming off hip surgery is easier said than done. Not impossible, but also not exactly easy. |

I was addressing this point you made, where you hypothesized that making a move could make us worse:
"I get ppl want us to proactively improve us,
but these moves could also make us worse"
I dont think adding a top-6 winger would hurt us. There are examples of trades happening this time of year, as I pointed out.
As for what offers are available to Botterill, I have no idea, and therefore I couldn't comment on whether he should or shouldn't accept one.
It is possible that there is a move available to Botterill that he doesn't like, but that I would like |

The duo of Pilut and Pekar absolutely have value. Pilut is an NHL defenseman right now, and possibly a top 4 at that. |

Your third paragraph is why I was purposefully vague.
I could say Pilut, Pekar, Scadella and a 4th for AA
Now the hoard can decend and tell me why that's either WAY TOO MUCH or that DETROIT WOULD BE CRAZY TO ACCEPT
No matter what is proposed, it is an unwinnable situation |

It’s 60% more of a sample size though, lol
And it’s not that I’m “scared” to change the lines
I just recognize that the game is played on the ice,
not a stat sheet
And your stats don’t (and can’t) measure things like chemistry
Or how confidence in your linemates grows from that chemistry & leads to production on ice
Shaking thing up makes sense when you’re 2-9-2
not 9-2-2
That doesn’t mean tweaks can’t/shouldn’t be tried,
but switching up every line at once seems an unnecessary risk to the chemistry & production that’s gotten us to 9-2-2 - jdfitz77
They absolutely do, because you if they have chemistry, and chemistry is a positive, the positive results of said chemistry would show up in the numbers |
