This whole imbalance thingy of Drafted F's vs D's is blown out of proportion
- 2 more D were selected than one could argue statistically out of the 18 (that's 11%)...it's not like it has been ignored
- when you consider that largely we should give more weight to the selections made in early rounds versus later rounds, say the 1st 3 rounds they still made about 2 Dmen more than one could statistically expect...more significant to be sure, HOWEVER one of which was Dahlin...NOBODY was taking anything but that Dman there...so it realistically gets down to 1 Dman is the difference.

The bigger issue was the draft picks moved that COULD have been used on drafting F's

- IonSabres

1.) Drafting defensemen disproportionately to forwards

2.) Trading picks that could have been forwards

3.) Disproportionately trading for top-4 defensemen vs. top-6 forwards

4.) Trading Nylander for Joker - which again isn't a bad thing, but it's a factor

5.) Not trading any defensemen or prospects for forwards

That's how we wound up with 1 top-6 prospect and Sobotka in the top-6. Blaming Tim Murray is a red herring (not that you were)

Dill is dill and tzazitki is cucumber.

Their garlic sauce (which is essentially whipped garlic) is AMAZING!

- Pairo11

I've been eating there a lot, and am trying to mimic their sauce so as to eat a bit cheaper. $11-12 a whack adds up after a while.

Oddsmakers are pretty much saying the Browns are favored because the betting public is stupid.

- buffalofan19

I’d put $$ on the Browns all day. Until Allen can connect on some deep throws this offense is so 1dimensional. And their D hasn’t found a fix for the loss of Harrison Philips.

he made the roster, like i said

- homiedclown

I think you mentioned something about him being a good pass catching rb who was being held back by an inferior jags oline.

Really haven't seen that. The good ball catching thing.

So they hired Housley a year before they knew they were going to get Dahlin?

Ummmmmmm....doubtful.

Housley was hired because he was "the next big thing" in terms of coaching. He was the hot commodity.

- HonkFortheGoose

I agree.
Botts not going crazy in upgrading the roster with quality players was more of an impact...and his ability to add was and is limited to a couple quality additions per year, simply due to the Cap...unless they have a ton of pending FA's like they do this upcoming offseason.
The counter argument to having flexibility vis-a-vies a lot of FA's, in order to overhaul the roster is they generally cost a lot in FA to replace as well.
I read that the Sabres will likely have about $8M in true free Cap space after resigning and replacing most of the FA's they need to for a 23 man roster, in which to add a new 1 or 2 players next offseason as pretty significant upgrades

He's good for about three weeks. And then he needs a cane on the ice.

El Paso.

- Der Kaiser

Trade deadline in. #legendreturns

Like we couldn't have used him and his cane a couple of shifts in the 1-0 islanders loss? Vesey is terrible.

He provides a boost.

#4 . Lets criticize botts for trading a 1st round bust that would have never played for the Sabres for a top 4 looking defenseman.

Just because it was a forward traded for a defenseman?

Take the L.

The rest is speculation trades based on a bad premise

I kinda feel like there was an agreement in place to be upper management prior. Krueger felt that he needed to continue to help the windowed owner of the soccer team and stayed to help set up the future.

Taco isnt gonna like this but,
They hired phail lousley to get eichel to sign the extension and draft dahlin, scech, or tkachuk in 2018.

Last year, they wanted a top 10 guy. Cozens looks like an nhl sure bet.

What better way to secure a top pick:
Hire a high school hockey coach and Sabres alumni.

Then they hire krueger, expecting him to eventually move to upper management. He was a bit smitten by coaching again and enjoyed the challenge.

I agree that this represents the list of things done, although again I dispute the severity of #1 above, and think the bigger impact was/is #2.

As it relates to the on-ice roster now, rather than draft picks/prospects; #5 hasn't yet been executed...but I expect it will be, certainly by the TDL...probably around the Xmas break.

9-2-2, errr...9-3-2...oh wait 9-4-2 Bro.

Be patient...this is a transitional year from bottom feeder to bubble team.
The real work will begin in this December and last through next September.

Cam Newton to IR.

The best starting quarterback with the last name Allen to take over for the rest of the season.

However, I do agree here.

When you see an opportunity to effectively win a trade, you take it immediately, regardless of the return. The fact that Botterill used an underachieving winger to acquire a young, already solid defenseman, is already a win. Regardless of the org depth at wing. It's not like he's taking young Ryan Johanson and trading him for Seth Jones. He's taking a roll of pennies and buying a high end stock.

Criticizing him for this particular move is ludicrous. Depth should have zero to do with it when it's an investment for investment swap, especially when the early returns show that the Sabres are the ones making out here.

Now that we have seen a decent number of games and the impact that Krueger has made on the team from a player friendly system and player engagement/buy-in, which of the impending FA's would you consider resigning from:
-Vesey
-Reinhart
-Sobotka
-Sheary
-Larry
-Larry's brother Larry
-Scandella
-Montour

For me
-Montour
-Reinhart
-maybe, maybe Girgenson (Larry's brother Larry)

At this point, I would be actively searching for trade partners on the rest...I don't care if they are tied for 7th in the East on TDL day.

I'm waiting for Colliton to sour on Kirby Dach and put him in the doghouse...
maybe we could trade Ellie to Stan for him.

I agree with who to resign with the caveat that Gus doesn't make more than 2 mill

The Cap wasn't the only reason. Murray decimated the depth here. When Botts came in, he didn't have a whole ton to work with. Hard to make trades when you don't have much worth trading.

Now, that's not to say that he hasn't made some moves that have been a bit odd (like trading draft picks to move up a few spots, especially when you don't have a ton of depth to begin with). But his first year he really had very little to work with. Rochester was abysmal and the cupboards were relatively bare.

not only that but he moved up to pick players way off the board that would have been there if he just stayed put

Dumb questions. Anyone here eat at Rachel's Mediterranean? What's the difference (ingredient wise) between their Dill Sauce and the Tzazitki sauce?
- buffalofan19

Had it for the first time last week while I was DT. I liked it. Got a steak bowl, think it was tzaziki sauce.
