See, that's where I think he did, or at least his agent did. Not only did Botterill sign him one year out of college, he burned a year of his entry level deal on 10 or so meaningless games. He didn't even go to Rochester. There's no way the team does that unless it doesn't have the leverage.

If his stats were better he would be in a better position to get more money on that first RFA contract. As it is now he won't have much leverage there. I am not saying this was the plan (I doubt it was) - I am just saying that it can go the other way too if the player doesn't play well.
