Garth had a lot of issues. His choice of Coaches was a friggin huge one. His inability to pull the trigger on a big trade to get a TOP Center to go along with Snake boy was huge. ... His Drafting was not an issue. We are watching a whole team of Garth Draft picks doing extremely well.

Yes Reinhardt was a bad pick. which he traded to get Barzal and Beau for which kinda makes up for it. Lee in the 6th round, Toews in the 3rd round, Casey in the 4th round, Spurgeon in the 6th round, Moving up to get DeHaan, Moving up to get Brock Nelson,.. in 2009 we had 7 picks.. JT, de Haan, Koskinen, Nilsson, Casey, Klementyev, and Anders Lee. ... find me a team with a draft that hit on 7 of 8 guys in one draft.

In terms of drafting high impact players Garth failed. You cannot miss in the top of the draft like Garth missed. The draft is a crap shoot but the Isles were drafting in prime spots and you cannot miss.

Agree Ses.
Garth sucked, he was a goalie plain and simple he tried to be a GM and never made it. No need in defending him. He’ll never be a GM in this league again that’s how bad he was in every aspect of the job imo.
Lou has done more in 2 years than Garth did in 10 plus, not only in hockey ops but in every aspect of running a team.
I think The Islanders are actually getting some respect and recognition in a good way which is something that they haven’t gotten in decades.

Thanks God Lou is here now or like the rest of this list Lee and Nelson would be playing elsewhere as well.

So he missed on JT? He missed on Barzal? Missed on Bailey (when everyone wanted Filatov and Luke Schenn). Missed on Pulock? Missed on Strome? nino?

no GM has a Perfect record.. put Garth's draft against any GM the same year and get back to me.

Here is Garth's draft history..

Yes you have to consider he missed on Nino and Strome. Skinner, Fowler, or Tarasenko could have been drafted over Nino. Scheifele, Couturier, or Hamilton could have been drafted over Strome. Pulock and Barzal were not lottery picks. You really want to credit JT? Garth is a failure on every level including drafting.

Figures Strome would do well as a Ranger. No idea what happened after that very good first season with the Isles?

Komarov says he probably needs a few more days of skating, but doesn't know for sure if he'll be out tomorrow. They could definitely use his physicality against the Leafs, but Clutterbuck and Cizikas do appear to be OK for tomorrow.

Yeah can't say I followed him after that really good rookie season. He seems to really click with Panarin.

It's so bizarre. It's not like the Isles took Strome away from JT and put him on the 4th line after the nice season he had. It's like he forgot how to play and he had a Hangover type offseason. I guess we will see lousy Strome next year?

Well it would be kinda funny to see them bully the Leafs, so there's that. But I'm sure whatever other physicality they have in the lineup will be more than sufficient

Yeah, but he didn't do poop the next 4 years after that. One hell of a hangover

Supremely talented offensively, sure, but thats about it

I think maybe the gist of that thought was that if the Islanders could push the Leafs around it would, in theory, make it easier for them to win. Not "they need the physicality to match that of the Leafs".

I don't really even consider Komarov a particularly "physical" player. He's a rat and a pest for sure, but he's not hitting people like Clutter/Martin/Casey do.
