Does anybody wonder if there was even just 1 NHL GM who even thought about for a second, picking up Ladd? Maybe clicked on his name somewhere just to see what the contract was like and what his stats have been? I'm just wondering. - chazpet

Really? Why would anyone take on his garbage contract? Maybe with some sweetener's but I can't imagine starting a team and adding him. I think he'll be LITR'd or retired to an office spot. - streaks
Oh yeah it would take a big sweetener but the Isles would probably be more interested and in a position in clearing cap space vs prospects or picks being a contender imho.
LTIR and or retirement won’t help because the majority of his contract is bonus. |

I don’t remember that. Most thought it was too long and too much but weren’t expecting him to be the abyss he is. I don’t remember anyone loving it. I remember a few hoping he’d be able to give us something for at least a few years but not being happy about it. How the (frank) could anyone be happy about that contract?😂
Edit;
I’ll add I honestly though he would be better than this but what are we really saying it doesn’t take much to be better than this😂 - Cptmjl
OMG the PP was gonna be soooo much better with the addition of Ladd. Yeah I’ll stick to my remembrance of the approval on here. Actually people on here wanted Snow to go after him at the trade deadline before Ladd became a FA.
I think maybe you were one of them |

I along with a few others wanted him two years before we got him. His name popped up in rumors for about three years before. He was still a decent player at the time when we got him he was obviously not the same player. I was not happy with it. Stop reinventing truth I would admit to it like I give a (frank). |

Meh, Chicago got him at the 2016 trade deadline from the jets that’s when this thread wanted him. It was basically the same year he became a FA and Garth signed him.
Don’t know if you were one of the ones on here that wanted him but the majority to almost all wanted him.
Let’s face it some were looking for him to score 25 plus goals here from year one and year two |

I remember KO for Ladd rumors. Thought it was at least a year before both hit UFA? I hated Lee for 7 years. Sorry schwein. No way I wanted Ladd for 7. Very few players I like for 7 years. |

I just hope hockey starts to wise up about giving long term contracts to 29 and 30 year old player. Baseball started to wise up about not giving pitchers too long a contract. |

Listen if you think that player is going to give you what you need to compete and win a Stanley Cup then you have to pay now to win and pay later. It’s part of the deal.
Islanders May be in that situation in the next couple years but if they keep their core in tact and win a cup then who gives a shat if there are a couple bad contracts in the mix. It’s what the caps does, to even the playing field. However if your raising the cup who gives a shat. |

Hockey is a rough sport and it's just not good business to be giving out long term contracts to players that will break down. A player like JT or Panarin at 28 and 29 that are impact players that are not overly physical you give out the big contracts. Teams just need to be more careful and understand the player. |
