Give me a break. It would be pretty weird if we didn't cover this, and besides the point when you attack someone or condemn them for racism or xenophobia you are not attacking or condemning someone with a "different opinion than you are" you are condemning something that is wrong.

If you can't see the difference, you shouldn't be talking at all.

I'd also like to point out that you clearly do not know what post-modernism is, nor do you know what Marxism is. You can't just use big phrases to make it seem like you made a smart post.

And finally, if being anti-racism creates an intolerant environment for people who have different beliefs, then good. That's what we're going for - at least I hope it is.

So you decide who can talk and who can't? Sounds about par for the course for a far left ideologue.

The problem is "you people" scream racism about everything you disagree with. You keep changing the goal post on what you consider "racist" to fit your naritive. Please point out what don cherry said that was racist. Don't worry I'll wait.

Best part of article is when Ek said he tells his writers not to talk politics...I guess Little Jimmy didn't get the memo.

2020 gonna be a great year.

Four more years of economic prosperity, a strengthened USA, and Republican control of house, Senate, and maybe one more Supreme Court Justice picked by Trump!!!

Oh boy, how the triggering will go off the Ricter Scale.

Trump 2020.....F**k your feelings!

If Democrats ever get elected down there you guys are (frank)ed. They'll do away with the electoral college. LA, New York and Chicago will decide who the president is. They'll open your borders and promise everyone who comes free health care and education. Id say economic collapse in 4-6 years.

Wow Ek, you sure seemed to step in with this post. 14 pages of comments and counting in just hours. So when do you open your new PoliticoBuzz Blog? seems like the ad revenue will be outrageous.
With that said, this blog and commentary is a true microcosm of what's going on in both countries. people read the exact same words, but get either 1) what they're predisposed to believe, or 2) offended from it. I wish i could tell you how to solve it, but i don't see a path until people learn to respect opposing views a little more.

I think it is slightly unfair that they hired Don to speak his mind and, as you've said, they all laugh at his audacity, only to give him the boot when his audience can't tolerate him anymore. I don't really think Don had changed much, but it is the rest of the world that has changed. Safe spaces and triggered millennials have taken over and anything they choose to be "over the top" is banned because of their outrage.

CBC/Sportsnet is merely going with the percentages on this one. The brutal truth is that good ole Don will die soon...and then CBC/Sportsnet will be left with the outrage culture "woke" millennials that they have to cater to. This decision, from a business standpoint, was an easy one. It sucks for Don, but yes, he's too old and too set in his ways to realize that we all need a filter these days...in fear of triggering a helpless and fragile generation of hand-sanitized, 8th-place ribbon winning superstars.

Also, about the "Canada is so great" comments that so many Americans claim...make no mistake, the USA is a universe apart from Canada right now! America is firing on all cylinders, in every facet of life. People are working again, people are accountable again, and there is a certain dignity about the USA that has been missing for several years. Canada is in shambles, the country is an utter disaster, citizens swimming in debt, resources land-locked, industries failing and capital is fleeing to the USA in the billions, soon to be trillions. The last election proved what a mess Canada has become and our country has never been this divided. The USA has always been divided politically (DNC vs GOP), but a similar basic culture and pride has always existed (just look at Memorial Day for an example). Canada has now THREE distinctly different regions or sub-economies, and it is not out of the realm of possibility that Alberta/Sask./Manitoba get very serious about leaving Canada.

I have several Canadian "snowbird" clients and they ALL say the same thing...Canada is way behind the USA.

ironic that cherry gets fired for speaking his mind over a topic about our ancestors who died for our right to speak our minds. i think the writing was on the wall for him to get dismissed, joining kyprios, mclane etc. probably to do with the expensive deal rogers made with the nhl. ron mclain will likely be next.

Everything is too PC. Watch, if Trump loses and the Dems get the White House. All hell will break loose. You’ll have free healthcare for illegals that the middle class will have to pay. We will have Civil War and I’ll finally get the opportunity to crack a leftist cocksucking liberals head wide open.

Why are people simple enough that they continue to turn this into a debate on the PM? WE didn't hold cherry accountable for anything. Sportsnet did, and Sportsnet is not a democracy. And the only reason JT didn't come to the same fate when WE exercised our democratic right to hold him accountable was because Andrew Scheer is a complete incompetent boob.

Stop making them the same thing. Business and democracy are not the same, and you make yourselves look incomprehensibly stupid implying they are.

- joel878

orrrr....the only reason JT didn't succumb to the same fate is because you disregarded his racism and checked the box again. haha

Ahhh yawn. I can't stand Trudeau and the blackface thing is still so tiresome. It was 20 years ago, Tropic Thunder was literally a movie like 10. You can't hold someone accountable now for doing something 20 years ago that was deemed acceptable in a freaking school of all places at the time.

People need to let it go.

Immigration has always been ok in America. But many people love grouping illegal immigration right in with legal immigration.

I’m friends with two different families who came to this country from India the legal way which took several years including splitting their family up over the course of those years to get here and become productive, tax paying members of our society. They couldn’t have been happier with their decision.

What do you think they think of illegal immigration? Would their answer be “xenophobic”?

So I’ll ask what is the problem with immigration Ek?

That's what they are truly after, they want to be able to control your speech. They get to decide what's "racist", "sexist", etc. They are using their buzzwords to shut down anyone who doesn't align with their ideologies. They are intolerant of people who don't agree with them. Wonder why we never see CBC talking about their intolerance?

According to this list of Don Cherry's supposed "Most Controversial Quotes":

http://slam.canoe.com/Sla.../2012/03/09/19483251.html

in #9 he once said about Ron Wilson "Napoleon," "arrogant," "pompous" and "a typical American." As an American who has only been out of the country a couple times (and never to Canada) I could care less that he said this. Yes, it is a unfair generalization and I don't agree with it. At the same time, he and I are two very different people who have lived very different lives and have very different life experiences.

A statement like this really only says something about him - not anything about any objective truth on what he is speaking of. At the same time, I often liked to listen to him because I thought most of the things he said, to me, were insightful or at least amusing. Most of the items on that list are amusing, to be honest (although #8 is not and really mean).

"Canada continues to believe strongly in embracing immigrants and when you walk around Toronto or Vancouver you truly see a melting pot with well-dressed business people of all nationalities working side-by-side and making huge contributions."

I spend a lot of time in the six & i have to agree. Most are busy & productive.
No Canadian i know would ask or expect an immigrant to forget where they came from so why is it acceptable for them to forget where they are ?
Buy a damn poppy & embrace the culture, that's all Grapes was saying.
Maybe I'll move to Iran or China & walk the streets in a thong & a toque with a Timmies in my hand while challenging their laws & ignoring their traditions and see how long i survive.
