Are we not aloud to talk about immigrants because they're immigrants? He did single them out unfairly but the reality is he was singling them out and telling them to buy poppies. In the quote you posted where you said he double down he said "I meant what I said. Everybody in Canada should wear poppies."

He then later came out and said I wish I worded it better and said everybody from the start and said he was willing to apologize if he hurt anyone.

It's all overblown. He was telling people to buy poppies and support the troops. Plain and simple.

- HealthyScratch6

Talk about anyone in a factual manner all you want, but don't make up poop to fit your own biases, which is clearly what occurred here. Don has no basis in fact for calling out immigrants, 12 year olds, caucasians, first nations, old people, Russians, Brits, Americans or any group of people out for not buying poppies, because there is literally zero data to support his biased, slanted view of the world. Frankly, the way poppy sales are tracked, I'd be amazed if there was even a source of record for total amounts raised year over year, or in which communities funding is most successful, never mind by country of origin.

Sports Net was probably looking for a way to can Cherry since he is a Conservative. No surprise.

I've heard this exact thing several times, and it's so close to making a point, but fails to do so. First, the two have nothing to do with one another. Second, he wasn't fired for the comments, he was fired for not apologizing for insensitive comments or even acknowledging that it was an issue. Third, he's been a hard line bigot and mysogynist for decades. This is not the worst thing he's said by a long shot, but people are finally fed up with it. Freedom of speech does not equal freedom of consequence.
The bottom line is, just because you weren't offended doesn't mean other people weren't. We really need to get over this rhetoric of "people are too soft" mentality, and just think before you speak and realize there are other people.

But do you really believe justin trudeau is racist because he painted his face 20 years ago?

Also, doing something 20 years ago shouldnt mean you cant criticise others for continuing to do it.

I dont really care about trudeau either way. I dont think hes a great PM but i also dont think there were better options. He doesnt embarass us, he represents us well, but i cant think of one single thing hes accomplished. That seems to be a trend. The best people arent elected anymore. Just the least terrible of a whole lot of terrible options. There have been good leaders over the years. Chretien and martin were a great team. Reagan, bush sr, and obama were great. Howndo we end up with donald trump, or have to choose between scheer and trudeau? Or here in ontario..... doug ford? Ugh embarassing.

- prock

The problem with Trudeau is that now the bar is set so low for the liberals. The guy who ran in my riding had hateful homophobic online comments in his past and nothing came of it because it came out after the Trudeau blackface scandal.
How could the liberals justify punishing him after that?

No I don’t but he would be first in line to paint someone else as a racist so he should die on that same hill that he helped build. Imagine if pictures of trump surfaced in blackface or even an Aladdin costume painted “brown and gold” as you put it? Trudeau would be filmed sobbing and crying looking at the pictures because the racism hurt him so deeply. Also, I find it funny that Reagan and Bush are now considered great leaders. Let’s not forget Reagan was called a racist klansman along with Bush when they were in office. They were both attacked by the media and democrats for being racists constantly. Republicans are always revered by the left. When they’re dead... That’s how the media and the left paint their opponents. This is nothing new it’s just more polarized these days.

Okay well I disagree with you on which package was the lesser of two evils
- HealthyScratch6

Sure. But we agree theyre both evils anyway. Its sad that we have to pick from evils. It wasnt always like that.

Maybe you can differentiate between legal immigrants and illegal immigrants.
Using your example don’t put the refs in the position where they can call a penalty. Well if your in another country illegally don’t put the government in the position to uphold their laws.
End of discussion there is no other discussion.

Who cares. I'm sure plenty of black people dress up as a white guy at Halloween parties, but it wouldn't bother me. I don't see those videos being leaked....double standard, and the slavery excuse is way too dated. There isn't a race, ethnicity, or religion who hasn't been persecuted as we speak or in the past...Race baiting is the only way the left can marginalize their opposition because their ideas have been tried over and over again and have been PROVEN to fail every time!

Socialism?...nope

Unhindered illegal immigration?...nope

Universal health care?.... nope...and for those who are Canadian, be honest, if you have the $$ you are coming to the US for many procedures, either due to wait times or quality.

Hmmm..what else? Anyone?

I was pretty young when they were around. But yes i think of them highly.

Compare reagan and hw bush to trump and w bush. Night and day to me. (Although theviraq war was a witch hunt chasing control over oil wells)

I guess i also just dont agree that a painted face, which would be considered racist now, but not really then, is helping build that hill.

But yeah, the racist label is tossed around a lot these days.

my biggest issue with this piece is you point to the U.S. as intolerant of Immigrants. the United States embraces immigrants. We have averaged well over 1 million LEGAL immigrants entering the United States for 10 years. (Canada is less than 300k). It's the Illegal immigration that is the issue in this country. Our southern boarder brings thousands of illegal immigrants. It also brings gangs, drugs, human trafficking, and crime.

don't confuse Immigration with Illegal immigration.

- niteislander

Exactly right.
Media and politicians try to make it about disliking races of people. I do not know a single person who feels that way.

The truth is so rarely spoken any longer, and both parties try to reshape the truth so much that the two sides look like enemy nations.

It’s the hypocrisy of politicians like Trudeau that I have a hard time understanding how anyone can be on board with? If any conservative leader did the same 20 years ago you, me, and every single person this thread knows they would be vilified for. Demands for them to step down, etc. It’s all politics with the left side of the table refusing to eat their own and the people that follow that ideology all too happy to ignore it.

Yes, when in a place of employment everybody absolutely should make an effort not to say offensive things. Its actually not hard to avoid it.

Can you imagine if one picture of trump in black face came out he'd be impeached immediately. They could finally stop all the Russia Ukraine BS.

And there were calls for trudeau to step down. You act like this behaviour comes from one side. Thats madern politics. Its more theater than governing.

Its worse in the US. Most of the country is basically split into 2 sides.

That quote stated nothing about place of employment..It was a blanket statement that in a nutshell said don't say anything that will offend people.

But beyond that how exactly do you know when you are going to offend somebody regardless of location...?

Yet those same people that would cry for him to step down would be the first to cast their vote to re-elect him.

Clinton didn’t get impeached he finished his term. Also, they went after him for lying under oath and obstruction which as we should all know he did. He even admitted to it. Cohen and Manafort are going to jail for the same crimes. With that said it was a partisan attack that backfired on the republicans. The same thing will happen with this Ukraine garbage. The only difference isTrump did nothing wrong where as Clinton was guilty of lying under oath.

No, just tired of racism being blamed for everything in this country. I actually treat everyone equal and could give a shiiit about someone's skin tone. You can pretty much figure someone out after talking to them after a few minutes. Everyone gets a chance

He got.impeached. and finished his term. Cohen and manafort and their actions are not in the same hemisphere. Get real.

He lied under oath. But why was he testifying under oath..... about getting a blowjob.... in the first place.
