that's alot of implying on what someone is implying, before you go ballistic, I defended Don yesterday and i am second generation immigrant. I understand he was trying to get people to donate for veterans because it's well documented (left or right ) that he is heavily involved in veteran affairs. This is why his firing is somewhat murky and all this could of been averted with some good PR, apology and explanation included - Alexzanki
Don Cherry refused to apologize, so here we are. |

Of course there are, but let's be honest. How many people look around Toronto or Mississauga (where Grapes would be) and see white people and immediately think they must be recent immigrants because they're not wearing a poppy? - Tonybere
I get it, the racist witch hunt cancel culture is your people's thing but when he said "you people" how do you know he wasn't referring to the people specifically who don't wear poppies opposed to a shot at all immigrants? It's easy to assume when there's a narrative being painted
He's not wrong in that there is immigrants who come here for the benefits (milk & honey) and don't care about our traditions. It's a sad truth that Canadians like to pretend doesn't exist. The real alarming thing is that no politician or anyone for that matter is even able to have a discussion about immigration in this country without being labeled as some evil person. The lieberals are the ones who ushered in this type of authoritarian dictatorship |

Let me get this straight...blackface is okay and "you people" is not? Canada has turned into Obamas America....Your only hope is the next PM is like Trump.....That crack smoking Toronto mayor would of been perfect, god rest his soul......
You can keep this crap south of the border. |

I am a Flyers fan in Virginia. As an American, I have no particular attachment to Don Cherry. I watched DC's comments in their entirety 3x on DVR. The most that reasonably may be said is that his comments were politically incorrect. But the idea that a hockey man of his stature could lose his job over such comments says a lot more about sports media cowardice in the face of the Twitter mob than it does about DC's character. |

Him getting fired is a lot more than just about these comments..... The guy is a relic. he should have retired years ago. |

Sure but to paint him as a racist is unfair. Nationalist or xenophobic sure but there's no proof that he is racist. |

Or maybe, just maybe, we think it's a good thing that people can come here, and to an extent, keep their own traditions...... I was at a jewish wedding last weekend. It was great. Full of traditions that do'nt match mine. I really enjoyed it.

My wild guess is that Sportsnet decided they needed to get him off the air before he did something much worse - which was probably inevitable.
Down Goes Brown has some really good stuff on this (he always does).
Like DGB, I loved Don Cherry, but his time was up.
It was actually up years ago.

Dear lord...
A) His point was very clear. Immigrants don't wear poppies and don't contribute. This is abhorrent.
B) This isn't the first time he's said stuff like this, but people let it slide because it's "Don being Don". It's not ok.
C) Thousands of immigrants become Canadian citizens every year. To do so, they have to pass a test on Canadian history that I would wager 90% of natural born Canadians would not pass.
Authoritarian dictatorship... read Breitbart much? |

I am a Devils fan in Virginia. Now we must meet in a vacant parking lot and knife fight until only one man draws breath. There simply isn't enough room in this state for fans from both sides. Especially considering how you people treated Santa at that Eagles game. |

It's a pretty fine line between racist and xenophobic, but either way, most people are educated enough to know the difference and say xenophobic. Not everyone understands the difference though. |

I grew up in NY. I love Canada. If my head was able to flop open like Terrence and Phillip, I would have moved there a long time ago. I even took 2 years of high school french, in preparation for my move to Montreal. |

To all those people that have so gleefully jumped on the "Lets vilify Don Cherry" bandwagon, ask yourself this one simple question, "How much did you pay for your poppy this year?" |

No. It absolutely exists everywhere, as the firing of Cherry can attest to...

There's nothing wrong with people maintaining their culture but remebrance day has nothing to do with race or culture. It's about supporting people who gave their lives to allow us to maintain our way of living which is so appealing to people coming from other countries. |

Yes, Canada is a great country because everyone is welcome to come here and pursue a life of freedom.
Except lapel pins. |
