Yeah. It's tough to get a read on what type of game they are playing day in-day out.
- PatC80

Frustration is mounting.

I bet Dubas is pretty pissed at Babs for Barrie's deployment....UNLESS of course Barrie, at age 28 in his UFA year decided that playing responsible pays more than scoring 60 points/15 goals a season.....Yeah I am going to go with Not that.

Guys, its not that hard. Look at their record since last Jan. 1. It's a large sample size. You are what your record says you are. They are a goal-leaking team that regularly - consistently - does not compete for long stretches of games. That is a factual, day in, day out read on this team for 10 months.
- fifty__missions

I like to look at larger sample sizes myself.

Oh sorry I forgot we are missing our best player Matt Martin.

Barrie had 116 points over the past two seasons, Babs gets a hold of him...then bam! Offence gone.

Yeah I've always supported Babs but I have no idea what he is doing here.

If its all part of some master plan the awesome. I don't see it though

This is a direct result of the system they play. Puck pressure instead of basic defence like the Islanders. When we had the puck in there end they had all 5 back in front...

It is Babs system. It doesn’t work. Defence wins championships. Talent+Defence will win. We have talent, but dont play basic defence...

Well I mean I'd hope Babs can fix this himself....He is paid 8 million to do it.

He'll get another 10 games.

Shït

I forgot fly-bylander.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

well he does look best with his hair flowing as he flies by.

I'm actually glad he's started scoring... might actually get something for him when the inevitable need to move his contract comes up.

whether Babcock is here or not.. .there will be a significant amount of embarrassment to go around if this group misses the playoffs.

come to think of it... we get a post game and post practice interview/q&a with Babcock pretty much daily... maybe someone should ask when they are going to "stop learning and start doing"?

and maybe the media might ask Shanahan for an interview - on the state of the team. I don't think Dubas is coming out of the bunker anytime soon, to much data to process.

We play better team defence at my Friday night men’s hockey then this ‘team’...

Most talented leaf team I have ever seen and simultaneously the most frustrating?

that does seem odd...

but did Babcock cause Nylander to score only what 6-7 goals last year... after scoring consistently 20+ the previous two years?

I don't know ... I think the player MIGHT just own a bit of that.

Honestly, Babs probably spiked Nylander’s drink before every game. Just to make Dubas look bad and shift the blame away from himself.

Yeah its the exact same.

Its not like one player started playing in December.

Its not like we have comparisons of Nylander starting in December compared to starting in October.

You're ignoring the part about them consistently going long stretches in pretty much every game, where they disappear and don't compete. You're ignoring the consistent defensive zone lapses - the 'peewee' defenisve zone coverage errors and brutal giveaways - that have occurred consistently - for years. You're ignoring the utter lack of spine on this team. These are not the results of the system they play.

Step one- put Barrie on the number 1 PP. Reilly’s shot sucks. He will never score like he did last year again....

actually, in all seriousness that was pretty good compared to many lately.

they only fell asleep for 1/2 the game tonight... I guess they were learning during that little rest period

Yeah.

To me, it sorta feels like with the whole Leafs rebirth TITS era, that they don’t have that “prestige” they used to have. And now they have no story, no battle scars etc. I’ve been openly critical of Shanny, Dubas, and Babs somewhat.

I still don’t know what makes Shanahan so (frank)ing special. But whatever..

The defensive lapses are absolutely connected with the system and style of play. Changing defensive structure will absolutely change something like that. Just ask Jacque Lemaire... (or Barry Trotz for that matter!)

okay - I understand your need to maintain an erection for Nylander... not something I personally find necessary - but too each his own.

I wasn't calling out Nylander for that... he had an off year for WHATEVER reason last year... is that on the coach?

Barrie's production has cratered. Yes he isn't getting PP time... but the guy has what 1 point in the last 15 games or something... that can't be on the coach.
