It seems more logical to me to complain about a none producing 3rd line center at 7.14 million, than complaining about a 13th forward making the league minimum, not playing and has no expectation by fans alike. - SuperSchennBros
Have you ever considered not complaining about something? |

Remember, he's a lock to score at least 40 goals every season, except for the seasons that doesn't. - jmatchett383

yeah...and he's here to shut others down. JVR is signed at 7 mil per, and will probably be south of 60 points. but scoring 30 goals gets him off the hook. hayes plays a more important role. overpaid...maybe by what though????600,000? large shutdown center going into free agency, it happens.
don't care about his shooting percentage. the fact they are in the offensive zone while going against other teams 1 or 2 line is fine with me. - Peter Richards
The idea that Hayes was signed just to shut down other teams top players is a mistaken idea. He needs to produce more offensively than he has to this point. |

Not disagreeing. But someone here (I forget who) said he was a lock to score 40+ a season. But the fact is that he's not a lock to score 40+ because 1) he's not guaranteed to be injury free, 2) he's getting to be on the wrong side of 35, and 3) he's already had seasons where he's scored less than 40. |

Lafraniere is gonna be better than Hischier and Hughes and probably any forward not named McDavid taken in the past few years
The one year in the past 5 we actually look like a playoff team too lol |

I recall that was what some had said...and I thin kit was more than 1 person...the price tag is high along with the term, but right now I don't see how they win without him... seeing that there is no sign NoPa plays any time soon...With the injuries we would have 2 centers...that would not be pretty. |

Tough task tonight. Too early for "must wins" but I can't stand losses within the division. I always feel like these are the ones have to have when the season ends. |

Wouldn't it be something if the Penguins narrowly miss the playoffs cause of all their injuries and then get the no1 pick (no conspiracy theories) |

He was signed to bolster the PK AND shutdown other teams top players.

For people saying Hayes should be scoring 60 points, he’s never even broken the 50 point plateau so that seems pretty unrealistic. And now he’s not currently getting any power play time. Oskars and Farabee have displaced him from the PP.
In their first 17 games his shooting percentage is at a nadir, about half of what it typically is. Plus no one on his line is really scoring either. He’s creating good scoring chances almost every game. Once his shooting percentage picks up closer to the norm the points should come. But to expect 60 points is a recipe for disappointment. - Marc D
Numerous posters explained to me in detail that Kevin hayes was a 60pt a year center, even though he has never scored 60 points in a season. I was told, in no uncertain terms, that Hayes was a point-producing center who played a 200ft game. He was SO good that he didnt even need to play on hte PP to get to the 60 point a season mark, even though, he has never gotten there.
I cant make this stuff up |

I'd lean on the side this part was at least made up because it was expected he'd slot in as the PP2 Center. Plus no one expected Oskar or especially Farabee to bump him off PP Duties |

Patrick hasn't played since April and hasn't even taken contact in practice, Laughton is out injured for a month, and people are complaining about the Hayes signing? Depth at center is crucial to any team that wants to win playoff rounds. - Feanor
Yep. This is a good point. The Flyers must have known about Patrick's situation when they signed Hayes. They had to overpay to ensure they got him. I mean would it shock you if this migraine disorder finished Patrick's career? |

That would be our luck. Win the lottery draft and get the #2 pick and he has issues thst end his career within 3 years. This sounds about right as a flyers fan |

While I am optimistic this won't be the case... but this was joked about a ton when we first got him, hopefully the laughing joke won't become a sad reality |

Not just Flyers. Philly sports teams are noted for using high draft picks for athletes who can't play ( though this may be a first....medical reasons) |

shattenkirk...tampa. guessing he could've got more elsewhere - Peter Richards
Kariya was coming off of a good season 81 points) and took 1.2 million to sign with Colorado along with Selanne. He made 10 million the season before with Anaheim. that was truly taking a huge cut to play with a team he thought had a shot to win. didn't end up going well for him or the team tho losing in the second round.
I had to look up all of the details but I remembered the basics. |
