I gotta say, I've been super annoyed at Buchnevich but he has 14 points through 16 games. But he could be even better.
Trouba is starting to get me slightly worried. He started off so well then took a nose dive offensively. - JRR1285
it's because DeAngelo has the major powerplay time now
I am not worried about Trouba at all, every night he leads the team in minutes played, the guy is a horse |

Because one could argue that them missing and having a shot at a high draft pick is better than a possible first round exit. - JRR1285
I don't agree, all these young guys getting some playoff exposure is invaluable to their careers |

That's the thing though, according to these fancy stat nerds we are dead last in the league and have no chance to win any games. I just checked the standings, we are 3 points out of a playoff spot and have the same amount of points as Tampa. He should be ripping his own team then - TPC
Why do they bother you so much? Its all they got. Imagine not enjoying a hockey game because you are so concerned about a thousand different fancy stats. |

With Fox and DeAngelo running the PP's now its a good thing for Trouba. He can stay fresher and play the harder D minutes |

It doesn't really bug me, just wish someone would call them out for not actually watching them play and just relying on their excel sheets |

I see that side of it too. I think that the winning culture should start as soon as possible. Kakko is really starting to shine.
I'm all in on the playoffs. I just hope the assets accrued thus far are enough for long term success. |

I guarantee you those miserable people could probably find some stat that showed Kakko wasn't good last night.
What I saw last night was a 18 yr old kid who had a sweet breakaway goal and the game winner and made that game fun as hell to watch |

Yea for the first time in years I am getting emotionally invested in games again, where I am pissed when they lose.
Even if they don't make the playoffs i hope they stay within striking distance all season long so every game has stress and importance to it. It's fun to watch again |

Yup.
If they can fix the team defense a bit they would be pretty good. The offense is just fine |

I don't think the Rangers are going to benefit that much by drafting in the 8-12 range, rather than the mid-first round range. Unless they really such and draft in the Top 5, which I don't think would be a good thing.
As for the assets accumulated, I think they are stacked with defensive prospects, so much so that it may turn out to be a headache finding time for kids that deserve it. That's a good problem to have, and will probably ultimately lead to them flipping some of the prospects they have on defense for help up front.
The second line center role is still a question mark, but maybe Strome fills that role long term (we will see), and I think Chytil has looked good since returning. The Rangers have depth at center, the question will be whether one of those guys can develop into a true second line option to complement Zibby.
I am pretty confident about what Gorton has accumulated here. I am sure they will need to fill some holes, but with the amount of prospects they have already compiled, they have a lot of asset capital to acquire players through trade when the time is right.

I think they'll be competitive for it. They'll get better in areas simply by young kids getting more experience, but they'll also probably go through some rough times during the dog days of the season as so many of these kids aren't used to an NHL grind.
I don't think they'll make it, but I also don't think it's that far fetched that they'll be in the mix.

Yeah, if they did make it I would be pleasantly surprised. Now next year they better be in it. I always said I would be happy with the rebuild by getting back in the playoffs for the 2020-21 season |

Pittsburgh may be without Crosby for awhile and that certainly hurts them and takes them out of a shoo-in playoff team |

Its always nice to dream about making the playoffs, but stop, its a pipe dream. Winning a few games in the beginning of the season is sweet but the reality is these kids havent played more than 4 games in a season ever, against men. Last season they stated out well and hit the skids in late November. They will probably wear down and sometime in Jan and February have a stat pack of 7 wins in 19 games. It will be an up and down season for sure. The team defense is ridiculously young and Brady is a train wreck. Aside from Staal and Brady the defense looks like they have a bright future. Nobody should want to make the playoffs now. We are rebuilding. They will go nowhere if they make the playoffs. I dont want to hear about St Louis. St Louis had a good team on paper, they just didnt have a goalie who could stop a puck. Once they brought up Binnington and he started to make saves, they won. Different situation here. |
