Drafting someone at pick 7-10 who takes 4 years to develop then maybe becomes a bust anyway doesn't do anything either

Even getting swept gives these kids 4 games (5% of a regular season schedule) of experience in a type of game they have never played before. Playoff hockey is far different from reg. season. And NHL playoffs are far different from AHL, CHL, SEL or any other type they may have played.
I would call that valuable experience.
On top of that, they would only be a handful of picks below where they might have been if not making the playoffs. And we still have a full cupboard of assets to move up in the draft if desired.

It has nothing to do with playoff experience. Put yourself in that spot. You are 18-20 yr old kid and despite what the experts said you made it to the playoffs. You wouldn't be excited, that wouldn't be a moment where you look and say damn we got a core here thats growing together? Or would you be like " this is dumb, we aren't that good and are gonna lose in the 1st round."

Their grind will be getting into and maintaining a playoff position. Whatever happens in the playoffs will add to but not take away from that experience.

I think the worst thing for the Rangers would be for them to cemented into that non-playoff team/non lottery team.

Usually I don't care but I am still mind boggled that the Rangers are 6-1-2 over their last 8 games, most of which without their top center. The younger players keep gaining experience and are playing better and the structure is slowly getting more consistent. Yet some people just want them to lose and are upset some fans want them to win. MIND BOGGLED

I don't think the difference between drafting in the 7-10 slots and the 15-17 slots makes enough of a difference to hope that they miss the playoffs. The Rangers have drafted a whole heap of prospects over the last several years. They will add another in next year's first round (probably). Hell, sometimes they guy that you wanted to draft at 8 falls to 15.

I would lose my poop if I was Kakko, Fox, Lindgren and somehow made it to the playoffs. In saying all this, I don't think they make it, but hell it would probably be the best thing for these kids if they did.

In the same draft they drafted Anderson at 7 and Chytil at 21 or so. I think most people would bet now on Chytil being the better player long term. There are countless examples, but this is just one from recent history. Now if someone could guaranty us a top 4 pick, maybe I would feel differently.

You also have to factor in what was given up to gain the "playoff experience"

If all you gave up was hard work and dedication all is positive.

If the organization trades away assets, then you can start to question whether it was worth it.

that point would be it's senseless for somebody to attempt to have an intelligent hockey conservation with you
