An up-tempo system with some defensive responsibility requires that they out-skate the opposition. This team almost never does that, and never does that for a whole game.

So, I agree, if they were prepared to play that system, we would see signs of it.

- Aetherial

here's what I find so hard to comprehend...

the team plays well in spurts... "the system - I guess" - and they usually look and are pretty dominant doing it..

so - based on that, I assume perhaps incorrectly that they "KNOW HOW TO" play the system...

so - what are they doing the remainder of the time?

can only really be one of two possible things
1) not paying attention
2) being lazy - and assuming the other guys on the ice will look after it.

I don't buy the Babcock tuned out narrative... if they had... it would have been leaked by someone to one of the donkeys in the media

Ok.
"Fell" you say?

- Fakepartofme

hahahah i was thinking that as i wrote it. what kind of jokes might be said. im a big boi, i can handle it.

he was pushing on a screen, my mom had asked me to go up and get him off big window siles that were in our rooms. They were big enough to sit on and hand out, as i walked up the stairs, i heard a noise and them my mom scream. He landed 1 foot away from here on the cement, she was in the garden. (frank)ed up.

WTF. LOL. Outside of the past couple of games when has nylander consistently led this team in the past several years? :
- Fakepartofme

Nylander may have lead them in points in the past two games - getting the most points doesn't equate to "leading a team".

Nylander doesn't have the make-up to be the considered the engine of the team. Not even close... and to the previous poster's comment - consistent... I want to know what you are smoking cause I want some of that poop.

Nylander >< consistent - are these words in the same language?

Do we have a time for when Dubas is addressing reporters?

After he watches Blue's Clues?

- Atomic Wedgie

I think Dubas tries to coordinate those interviews with when he's running updates on MS Office... 'cause the spreadsheets are out of commission for that period of time.

I think you're bang on. It's where people take this ideology and use it as ammo to why he must go that it becomes all sideways.

Just because Nylander is this type of player doesn't mean he's not a useful player. Kessel wore the same hat for years and won back to back cups out of it.

Knowing what he is and using him accordingly is key. Only an idiot would expect someone like Nylander to be leader of the team, and then call for his head when they find out he doesn't fit the bill...

I agree, it doesn't and he isnt the engine of the team. But he seems to playing harder the past couple of games. Good to see. No complaints

what frustrates me with both Matthews and Nylander is the number shifts that they seem to "take off"... I don't expect them to score every shift... but I would think that the coaches must lose their minds with the lack of urgency and intensity on the defensive side of the puck...

sick and tired hearing "we learn every day"...

seems they learn something new on Wednesday and forget everything they learned the previous two days...

and I think a bunch of the players look at these guys as leaders - and they just aren't - at least not yet.

No way.
A few more months of ceci and the leafs have 4.5m of open cap space.

Ceci hasnt been that horrible....the same kind of horrible leaf fans should be use by now. Its been a decade of horrible D.

- Fakepartofme

Ceci is not the problem.

Lack of effort up and down the lineup, the lack of give-a-poop, and very average, at best, goaltending are the problem.

As much as Babs system is problematic, a lot of the miscues I'm seeing in their own end are atom level basic stupidity or just lazy not hard on the puck mistakes. The lack of physicality in front is horrible and why doesn't the defence ever hit a guy open ice? They just back all the way in and don't stand up and squeeze the opposition out. Are they that slow they think they will get beat wide? Are they lacking confidence? Or do they just suck? Likely a combination of all 3...

They are relying on their talent. I wonder what it would take to get them motivated to play hard every shift, and why it seems so hard for them to do so. Partly the club's fault for paying them too much money also.

According to Dregs the Leafs are no where near to firing Babs.

They have only beat good teams twice so far. Boston and Vegas. Both in OT. Against Boston they were outshot 46-29.

I thought wildcard.

This team may very well miss the playoffs.

Then they might as well just tank, because they aren’t winning poop with Babs.

If it's a top-10 pick, Carolina gets our 2021 1st rounder instead.

So there's that.
